My Pick
The 28-year-old Relikh will climb into the ring with a record of 22-2 along with 19 Kos. He’s just over 5-feet-9-inches tall with a 67.5-inch reach and is definitely a heavy puncher with 19 Kos in his 22 wins for a knockout ratio of 79 per cent. In addition, his stoppage wins usually don’t last very long as he’s fought just 97 rounds since turning pro back in 2011. He’s fought a few times in western Europe, including a couple of times in the UK, but his earlier opponents are basically unknown by the average boxing fan.
Relikh stepped up in class in October, 2016 when he took on WBA Super Lightweight Champion Ricky Burns and lost a unanimous decision. He then lost his second bout in a row and the second of his career when Barthelemy decisioned him last year, but he avenged that loss and took the title in his next fight. Relikh likes to put the pressure on his opponents and move forward. He’s also a boxer who likes to work his opponents’ body. He’s got a pretty solid chin, but has been dropped before as Barthelemy had him don in their first fight.
As for Troyanovsky, he’s a full 10 years older than Relikh as he’s now 38 years old. He’s also a heavy hitter as he climbs through the ropes with a mark of 27-1 along with 25 Kos for a knockout ratio of 86 per cent. He turned pro back in 2009 and has also fought just 97 rounds as a pro. Along the way he’s captured the IBO, and IBF World Junior Welterweight crowns, the WBA Inter-Continental Super Lightweight Title and the WBA International, PABA, and WBO European Lightweight Titles. He’s gone 3-1 with three Ko’s in world title fights and is also 3-1 with three Kos against former and current world champions.
Troyanovsky’s lone career loss came at the hands of Julius Indongo in December of 2016 when he was stopped in just 40 seconds. He also lost his IBO and IBF world titles in that fight. Troyanovsky’s biggest wins have been against Matt Zegan, Walter Estrada, Jose Alfaro, Cesar Rene Cuenca, Keita Obara and Michele Di Rocco. He’s 5-feet-8-inches tall with a 69-inch wingspan so is an inch-and-a-half shorter than Relikh but has an inch-and-a-half edge in reach. Like Relikh, he hasn’t had any problems with Grade B opponents, but struggled when meeting somebody from the top-tier.
Prediction…
These two boxers are very evenly matched and they both have power to boot. Relikh is 10 years younger though and that could end up being a big factor. In the end, I think this fight will come down to power and chins. If it does go the distance though I think Relikh has the edge. In fact, he may have the better chin too and that means he should keep his title here.
Relikh is 10 years younger and has the better chin.
