Juan Francisco Estrada vs Dewayne Beamon Preview Aug. 24th
WBC Junior Bantamweight Champion Juan Francisco Estrada of Mexico will be defending the crown against Dewayne Beamon of North Carolina in Mexico this Saturday, August 24th. The 12-round bout can be seen live in North America on DAZN while UK fans can see it on Sky Sports Action. Estrada won the title in April when he edged Srisaket Sor Rungvisai by a close unanimous decision in a rematch. Estrada lost a majority decision to Rungvisai just over a year earlier. Beamon’s last fight took place in October when he beat Martin Tecuapetla by an eight-round unanimous decision. That was also a rematch as Beamon dropped an eight-round split decision two months earlier.

The 29-year-old Estrada enters the ring with a record of 39-3 along with 26 Kos. He’s a also former WBO and WBA Flyweight Champion. He stands 5-feet-4-inches tall with a 66-inch, turned pro back in 2008 and has boxed 266 rounds since then. He’s never been stopped with other two losses coming by way of unanimous decision to Roman Gonzalez in 2012 in his first attempt at the WBA title and to Juan Carlos Sanchez Jr. by an eight-round unanimous decision in 2011.
Estrada also has better-than-average power with a current knockout ratio of 62 per cent and has won 13 of his last 14 fights. His biggest wins have been against Rungvisai, Carlos Cuadras, Hernan Marquez, Giovani Segura, Milan Melindo, Brian Viloria, Rommel Asenjo and Richie Mepranum. Estrada is a fast, heavy-hitting boxer who is riding a hot streak and also possesses a pretty solid chins. This should be another fan-friendly and exciting bout in the super flyweight division.
Beamon of Greenville, North Carolina is relatively unknown and the 33-year-old enters the contest with a mark if 16-1-1 along with 11 Kos. He turned pro just four years ago when he was 29 after a stint in the amateurs and has fought 95 rounds since then. He’s got decent power with a current knockout ratio of 61 per cent. Beamon’s 5-feet-5-inches tall with an unlisted reach so is an inch taller than the champion. His lone draw came against Angel Ramos over 10 rounds in February, 2018.
Beamon won the vacant Universal Boxing Federation All America Bantamweight Title with a ninth-round stoppage over Rudolph Hedge in May of 2016 and then took the vacant UBF Featherweight crown via a fifth-round stoppage of William Gonzalez seven months later. He added the vacant IBO International, and UBF Flyweight championships in February of 2017 with a ninth-round TKO over Christian Esquivel. He wasn’t done there though as he lifted the vacant IBO Inter-Continental Super Flyweight Belt by halting Jonathan Aguilar in the second round three months later.
Prediction…
Beamon’s got good skills and power but he’s stepping up in class against Estrada. He should be able to hold his own for awhile due to his chin, but over the course of 12 rounds I’m expecting Estrada to take over and retain his title.
Estrada’s a class above Beamon.
