My Pick
The 28-year-old Easter was an alternate of the 2012 American Olympic Team and will enter the ring with a record of 21-1-1 with 14 Kos. He’s a tall lightweight at 5-feet-11-inches tall with a reach of 76 inches, but doesn’t always take advantage of his size. He’s boxed 130 rounds since turning pro back in 2012 and likes to stay active. Easter has pretty good power in his fists with a current knockout ratio of 60.1 per cent, but has been taken the distance in his last six fights. He has good hand speed and doesn’t mind going toe-to-toe when needed.
His biggest wins have been against Javier Fortuna, Denis Shafikov and Richard Commey and he’s also beaten the likes of Argenis Mendez, Juan Roman Solis, Miguel Mendoza, Daniel Attah, Roberto Acevedo, Hardy Paredes and Carlos Cardenas. He’s a good combination puncher and a fast starter as all 14 of his Kos have come before the sixth round. If Easter has a weakness it’s his defence since he’s not the hardest guy to hit. He won the vacant IBF title over Commey in 2016 and defended it against Luis Cruz, Shafikov and Fortuna.
The 30-year-old Granados enters the contest with a mark of 20-6-2 with 14 Kos. He’s 5-feet-9-inches tall with a 74-inch reach so gives up two inches in both height and reach to Easter. He turned pro in 2008 and has fought 174 rounds since then. Granados isn’t really a powerful puncher as his knockout ratio currently sits at 46.7 per cent. He was on a five-fight winning streak until losing a 10-round split decision to Adrien Broner in February, 2017. Granados’ best win was an an eighth-round stoppage over Amir Imam in November of 2015.
He’s also been beaten by 12-round unanimous decision by Shawn Porter in 2017, 10-round majority decision by Felix Diaz in November, 2014 and a 10-round split decision to Brad Solomon in May of 2015. His other two defeats were to Frankie Gomez by an eight-round unanimous decision in August of 2011 and by four-round split decision to Jose Juan Fuentes in November of 2008. Granados’ draws came against former world champion Kermit Cintron over 10 rounds in March of 2013 and an eight-round affair with Lanardo Tyner in 2011.
Prediction…
Granados has an aggressive style which should make this an entertaining contest especially since Easter doesn’t really use his size to advantage. Granados will try to take the fight to the former champion and he’s had some bad luck when it comes to decision by falling short when stepping up in class. He should be able to give Easter all he can handle in this fight but will likely fall just short once again.
Easter has the better boxing skills.
