Erickson Lubin of Orlando, Florida will be taking on Terrell Gausha of Cleveland, Ohio in a 12-round WBC junior middleweight eliminator this Saturday, September 19th. The bout from the Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, Connecticut can be seen live in America on Showtime while fans in Canada can catch it on TSN. Lubin last boxed in October when he beat Nathaniel Gallimore by 10-round unanimous decision while Gausha fought to a 10-round draw with former world champ Austin Trout in May, 2019.

My Pick
The 24-year-old Lubin is a southpaw who has an impressive record of 22-1 with 16 Kos. The youngster has quite a bit of power in his speedy fists with a current knockout ratio of 69.6 per cent and 10 stoppages in his last 14 bouts. Lubin stands just over 5-feet-9-inches tall and has a 74.5-inch reach. He turned pro in November of 2013 and has 92 rounds under his belt since then. Lubin’s stiffest test came in October of 2017 when he faced Jermell Charlo in a shot at the WBC Jr. Middleweight Title, but was stopped in the first round.
Lubin has also beaten the likes of Ishe Smith, Alexis Camacho, Orlando Lora, Norberto Gonzalez, Daniel Sandoval, Ivan Montero, Juan Ubaldo Cabrera and Jorge Cota. He’s a good-looking prospect with a lot of potential, but may not be ready for another world title shot just yet. However, he had plenty of amateur experience and was also a national Golden Gloves champion as a welterweight back in 2013. He also captured the WBC Fecarbox Super Welterweight Title in 2014. With his speed, power and size, he should be able to give it a good shot against Gausha.
The 33-year-old Gausha had a fine amateur career and represented the USA at the 2012 Olympic Games in London, England. He’ll climb through the ring ropes with a mark record of 21-1-1 with 10 Kos. He stands 5-feet-10-inches tall and has a reach of 72 inches, giving him an inch advantage in height over Lubin but a 2.5-inch reach disadvantage. Gausha turned pro back in 2012 after the Olympics and has boxed 134 rounds since then. However, he’s been moved along at a slow to steady rate.
His lone loss came to Erislandy Lara by unanimous decision in October of 2017 in a shot at the WBA and IBO world titles and hasn’t really faced anybody else of note than Trout and perhaps Charles Whittaker, Luis Grajeda and Eliezer Gonzalez. Gausha is a former Golden Gloves and National Champion but was eliminated at the Olympics after two bouts. He doesn’t really have much one-punch power in his fists either and has a current knockout ratio of 43.5 per cent. Gausha has a pretty good chin and boxing skills and is taking another small step up in class here against Lubin.
Prediction…
This is a pretty even matchup all around in all departments. Both have enough power to cause damage and decent chins as well as fine boxing skills. There’s not much between these guys and a draw wouldn’t be out of the question. However, I think Lubin has a slight edge when it comes down to picking a winner.
A close call but Lubin has a slight edge.
