David Morrell vs Aidos Yerbossynuly Preview November 5th, 2022
Undefeated regular WBA Super Middleweight Champion David Morrell of Cuba will be battling it out with unbeaten Aidos Yerbossynuly of Kazakhstan this Saturday, November 5th in Morrell’s adopted hometown of Minneapolis, Minnesota. The 12-round bout can be seen live in America on Showtime while fans in Canada can catch it on TSN 3. Morrell last fought in June when he stopped Kalvin Henderson in the fourth round. Yerbossynuly last boxed in September, 2021 when he stopped Lennox Allen in the 10th round.

The 24-year-old southpaw Morrell is well known for his amateur exploits as he compiled a 130–2 record and captured gold medals at the 2016 Youth World Championships, the 2017 Cuban National Championships and the India Open International Boxing Tournament in 2018 in the light heavyweight division. Morrell made his pro debut in August, 2019 when he stopped Yendris Rodriguez Valdez in just 65 seconds and has boxed just 27 rounds since.
He stopped Quinton Rankin in the second round three months later before beating Lennox Allen by unanimous decision for the interim title. He’s defended it by stopping Mike Gavronski in the third round and Mario Cazares in the first round before before halting Alantez Fox in four and Henderson in four. Morrell now stands at a perfect 7-0 with 6 Ko’s.
It’s obvious that he has excellent power in his punches as he boasts a current knockout ratio of 85.7 per cent. Morrell also has good size as he stands 6-feet-1-inch tall with a reach of 78.5 inches. Like most Cuban national champions, Morrell is a polished boxer with plenty of skills and could potentially land some big-money fights in the future as he’s hoping to land a bout with David Benavidez or Canelo Alvarez.
As for Yerbossynuly, he’s 30 years old, enters the contest with a perfect mark of 16-0 with 11 Ko’s and now fights out of Las Vegas, Nevada. He made his pro debut in 2015 after a good amateur career and has 86 rounds of experience under his belt since. He’s just under 6-feet-tall with a 71.5-inch wingspan so he gives up 1.5-inches in height to Morrell and a seven inches in reach.
Yerbossynuly also has better-than-average power as his current knockout ratio stands at 69 per cent. He has been decked as a pro though. Since turning pro, he’s captured the vacant WBC Asian Boxing Council, and WBO Global Super Middleweight Titles as well as the vacant WBA International Super Middleweight Belt. His list of opponents so far include Issah Samir, Nuhu Lawal, Omar Garcia and Rocky Jerkic.
Prediction…
Many fans aren’t really too familiar with Morell and Yerbossynuly, but Morrell is a good-looking prospect who already holds a fringe world title. He’s a power puncher with a fan-friendly style and enters this fight with a big edge in reach. Yerbossynuly also has power but will need to work his way inside to use it. This should be Morrell’s toughest test to date and while it should be pretty close for a while I’m expecting to pass it with a win.
A close call but Morrell’s a little too skilled and powerful for Yerbossynuly.
