Arturs Gorlovs vs Ryan Rozicki Preview February 11th, 2023
Ryan Rozicki of Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada steps into the ring against Arturs Gorlovs of Latvia this weekend in a 10-round cruiserweight bout in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. The contest can be seen live on the FITE Network’s pay-per-view platform. Rozicki last fought in December when he stopped Mario Aguilar in 139 seconds while Gorlovs last stepped in the ring in October when he edged Mariano Gudino via an eight-round majority decision.

Rozicki is now 27 years old and carries around an impressive record of 16-1 with 15 Ko’s. He obviously has a heavy punch as he’s stopped 15 of his 17 opponents so far with 14 of them being halted in the first three rounds. He’s boxed just 55 rounds since turning pro in 2016 after a short amateur career, however, he’s more or less taken on domestic-level opposition only in Canada. His biggest fight though was for the inaugural Bridgerweight title in October, 2021 when he dropped a 12-round unanimous decision to Oscar Rivas for his lone pro defeat.
The only other time Rozicki went the distance was last May when he was awarded a 10-round split decision over Yamil Peralta for the vacant WBC International Cruiserweight Belt. However, the result was appealed by Peralta’s team and a WBC panel reviewed the fight and ruled the title still vacant as all three of the judges were from Canada and some hometown cooking may have been involved.
Rozicki won the vacant NABA Cruiserweight Title in 2018 by stopping Abokan Bopke in the first round and captured the vacant WBC International Silver Cruiserweight Belt by halting Shawn Miller in the third round a year later. He also took the NABA Cruiserweight Belt in 2021 when he stopped Sylvera Louis in the sixth round. Unfortunately there’s no reach information for Rozicki but he’s listed as 6-feet-2-inches tall.
The 30-year-old Gorlovs has a mark of 10-2-1 with 8 KO’s and has 49 rounds of experience under his belt since turning pro in 2008. He also has experience as a kickboxer. Gorlovs is just over 6-feet-4-inches tall and also has an unlisted reach so he has a 2.5-inch edge in height on Rozicki. He also possesses better-than-average power as his current knockout ratio comes in at 61.5 per cent.
Gorlovs has fought just once outside of Latvia as a pro. His losses came at the hands of Juris Ivanovs by way of a four-round point decision in his pro debut and to Nikodem Jezewski via a 10-round unanimous decision last May. His lone draw was a six-round affair with Felipe Nsue in 2020. Just six of his 13 opponents entered the ring with winning records but he did win the vacant IBA International Cruiserweight Title in 2021 when he stopped Bojan Cestic in the third round.
Prediction…
This is basically a fight between to boxers who probably won’t go on to achieve success as the world level but are pretty good domestically, even though Rozicki is Canadian and Gorlovs hails from Europe. Gorlovs needs to be aware of Rozicki’s power and vice versa so this fight will probably come down to whoever has the best chin. With Rozicki fighting in his homeland and possessing more power, I’m leaning towards him.
Rozicki is a bit younger and has more power.
