My Pick
The 31-year-old Ramos is 27-5-2 with 21 Ko’s and has boxed 166 rounds since making his pro debut in 2011. He now fights out of Arizona and beat Jame Herring and George Rincon as an amateur while losing to Amir Imam. Ramos stands 5-feet-9-inches tall with a 69-inch reach and as far as power goes, he has enough of it to cause damage as his current knockout ratio stands at 61.7 per cent but he’s gone the distance in two of his last three fights.
Ramos owns a so-so chin as he was stopped by Regis Prograis in the eighth round in 2015 for the vacant NABF Junior Super Lightweight Title. He was beaten by Ivan Baranchyk by 10-round unanimous decision in 2017 for the USBA Super Lightweight Title and was dropped a couple of times. He also dropped a 10-round majority decision to Jamal James in 2018 and split decision to Yodenis Ugas in a shot at the vacant WBA Welterweight Title in 2020.
His draws were an eight-round affair with Maurice Hooker in 2014 and a six-round tilt with Levan Ghvamichava the same year. As we can see, when Ramos steps up in class he usually falls just short, other than his sixth-round stoppage of Omar Figueroa in May, 2021. His biggest wins have been against Figueroa, Bryant Perrella, Roberto Ramirez, Mario Hermosillo, Javier Mercado, Emanuel Robles, Francisco Santana and Jimmy Williams.
The 29-year-old Crowley hails from Peterborough, Ontario and is a former Canadian Super Welterweight Champion, but now fights out of Las Vegas. He carries around a perfect record of 21-0 with 9 Ko’s and has boxed 128 rounds since making his pro debut in 2014 following an amateur career. He’s 5-feet-10-inches tall with a 72-inch reach which gives him a one-inch edge in height and three-inch reach advantage over Ramos.
Crowley is a solid puncher but not a KO artist by any means as his current knockout ratio stands at 42.9 per cent and he’s gone the distance in his last five fights. He looked sensational against Kudratillo Abdukakhorov in December, 2021 when he climbed off the canvas in the second round and handed him his first pro defeat. However, most fans haven’t heard of the majority of his opponents other than Josesito Lopez as he’s beaten the likes of Edgar Ortega, Stuart McLellan and Josh Torres.
Prediction…
It’s hard to say what Ramos has left in the tank. He always gives it 100 per cent though so should give Crowley plenty of problems. Crowley will have the chance to prove that his wins over Abdukakhorov and Lopez weren’t flukes and if fights like he did in those bouts I’m expecting him to take care of Ramos in a hard-fought battle. It’s definitely not going to be easy as Crowley will have his hands full and will need to be able to handle Ramos’ power shots.
Crowley is underrated and should be confident after his wins over Abdukakhorov and Lopez.
