Former WBO Super Bantamweight Champion Jessie Magdaleno of Las Vegas, Nevada is back in action this Saturday, April 8th Raymond Ford of when he meets undefeated Raymond Ford of Camden, New Jersey. The 10-round featherweight bout from San Antonio, Texas can be seen live in most nations DAZN. Magdaleno last fought in May when he beat Edy Mercado via an eight-round unanimous decision. Ford last saw action in November when he stopped Sakaria Lukas in the eighth round after also dropping him in the first stanza.

The 31-year-old Magdaleno is a southpaw who won the WBO Super Bantamweight title in November, 2016 when he beat Nonito Donaire by an impressive unanimous decision. He defended the crown against Adeilson Dos Santos by second round knockout five months later and then lost the title to Isaac Dogboe in an exciting contest in which he was stopped in the 11th round. He’s won four fights in a row since then; two unanimous decisions, a technical decision and a disqualification.
This means Magdaleno will walk to the ring with a mark of is 29-1 with 18 Ko’s and has 149 rounds under his belt since turning pro in 2010. Magdaleno has also beaten the likes of Rafael Rivera, Rico Ramos, Adeilson Dos Santos, Erik Ruiz, Roberto Castaneda, Luis Maldonado and Raul Hidalgo with Donaire definitely being the best of the bunch. Magdaleno stands 5-feet-4-inches tall with a 66-inch reach and has good power in his fists with a current knockout ratio of 60 per cent.
He also possesses impressive boxing skills and enjoyed a fine amateur career with a reported record of 120-16. Magdaleno was a Golden Gloves and National champion back in 2009 and learned lot in the amateur ranks. He has handled the pro game well up to now due to his power and overall ring generalship despite his lone defeat at the hands of Dogboe.
Ford is just 24 years old and a fellow southpaw who owns a near-perfect record of 13-0-1 with 7 Ko’s. He turned pro back in 2019 and has 90 rounds of experience to his name. Ford enjoyed a fine amateur career which saw him win the e won the 2018 U.S. National Golden Gloves Championships and take silver at the 2017 and 2018 National championships. Since turning pro he’s beaten every opponent other than Aaron Perez, who went the distance with him in an eight-round draw in 2021.
He won the vacant WBA Continental Featherweight Title in 2021 when he stopped Reece Bellotti in the third round and added the vacant IBF North American Featherweight Belt with a 10-round unanimous decision over Richard Medina in June, 2022. He stands 5-feet-7-inches tall with an unlisted reach so has a three-inch reach advantage on Magdaleno and has decent power in his punches with a current knockout ratio of 50 per cent.
Prediction…
Magdaleno has a lot of heart, speed and skills but can’t underestimate Ford as he’s a solid young pro with excellent skills and decent power. Magdaleno wants to prove he’s still a world class boxer but he had a two year layoff from mid-2020 to mid-2022 and this is his first time back in the ring in about a year. I’ll give the youthful Ford the edge here
This might be closer than expected but Ford should prevail.
