My Pick
The 28-year-old Gutierrez enters the bout with a mark of 27-4-1 with 21 Ko’s and has fought 133 rounds since making his pro debut in 2013 as a teenager. He lost his title last August in his second defence when southpaw Hector Luis Garcia of the Dominican Republic beat him by unanimous decision. Gutierrez beat Rene Alvarado by unanimous decision in January, 2021 to win the title and then beat Alvarado the same way in a rematch seven months later in his first defence.
Gutierrez stands just over 5-feet-9-inches tall with a wingspan of 69.5 inches and has pretty good power in his punches with a current knockout ratio of 65.6 per cent but before halting Henry Delgado in March he had been taken the distance four straight times. Gutierrez’s first defeat came at the hands of Rene Alvarado in 2017 in their first of three meetings when he was stopped in the seventh round.
He then dropped an eight-round unanimous decision to Hector Tanajara in June, 2018 and was stopped after four rounds by Oscar Duarte in his next outing three months later. His lone draw was a four-round affair with Alfredo Mirabal in October, 2014. Gutierrez’s biggest wins have been against Alvarado in the two rematches and he’s also beaten Leonardo Padilla and Eduardo Hernandez. He’s is currently ranked sixth in the world by the WBA at super featherweight/junior lightweight.
The 29-year-old Eranosyan carries around a perfect record of 13-0 with 6 Ko’s and has 76 rounds of experience under his belt since making his pro debut in 2020. Before that he enjoyed a fine amateur career which saw him capture silver medals at the 2014 European Union Amateur Boxing Championships and the 2015 European Amateur Boxing Championships along with a bronze at the AIBA World Boxing Championships in 2017 and the 2019 European Games.
Eranosyan, who fights out of Miami Beach, measures 5-feet-5-inches tall and unfortunately has an unlisted reach, so gives up 4.5 inches in height to Gutierrez. As far as power goes, he doesn’t possess a great abundance of it as his current knockout ratio is 46.1 per cent and he’s gone the distance in four straight outings and in five of his past six.
As a pro, Eranosyan won the vacant NABA USA Super Featherweight Title in January, 2021 when he stopped Juan Carlos Pena in the fourth round. He hasn’t taken on any top-10 opponents so will be stepping up in class against Gutierrez as he also has wins over boxers such as Jose Argel, Alejandro Guerrero, Starling Castillo, Cesar Juarez and Ezequiel Alberto Tevez. Eranosyan is currently ranked number two in the world by the WBA.
Prediction…
Gutierrez has pretty good power but doesn’t own the slickest boxing skills. His best chance at winning this fight is to stop Eranosyan, but that doesn’t seem likely as he has a solid chin and fine skills. I wouldn’t count Gutierrez out of this contest due to his power but I’m going with the skills of Eranosyan, likely over the distance.
Eranosyan’s chin and skills will decide this fight.
