Marcus Browne of Staten Island, New York will be trying his luck in the cruiserweight division this Saturday, August 12th when he takes on Adrian Taylor of Dallas, Texas. The 10-round bout will be held in Oxon Hill, Maryland. Browne hasn’t boxed since December, 2021 when he was stopped in the ninth round by Artur Beterbiev in a shot at his IBF and WBC Light Heavyweight Belts. Taylor last saw action in April of last year when he beat Efetobor Apochi by an eight-round split decision

The 32-year-old Browne enters the clash with an impressive mark of 24-2 with 16 Ko’s and the southpaw has 122 rounds of experience to his name since making his pro debut in 2012. He stands just over 6-feet-1-inch tall with a wingspan of 75.5 inches. Browne enjoyed a pretty good amateur career as he boxed at the 2012 Olympics in London, England, but was beaten by Damien Hooper on points 13-11 in his first contest of the tournament.
Browne possesses better-than-average power in his fists as his current knockout ratio stands at 61.5 per cent. However, he lost two of his last three fights, hasn’t won by stoppage in his last five and last stopped an opponent in January, 2018 when he halted Francy Ntetu in the first round. Browne was stopped by Beterbiev in an exciting tilt and has been down a few other times in his career including in the fifth round against Lenin Castillo in 2018 and three times against Jean Pascal in 2019.
Browne lost to Jean Pascal after eight rounds by technical decision due to a cut in 2019 and lost the WBC Silver, and the WBA interim Light Heavyweight Titles which he had won seven months earlier with a unanimous decision nod over Badou Jack. He’s also beaten Sean Monaghan, Thomas Williams Jr., Gabriel Campillo, Radivoje Kalajdzic, Cornelius White, Aaron Pryor Jr., George Blades and Otis Griffin. Browne’s not exactly the hardest guy to hit in the ring and combined with his power, that makes him a pretty exciting boxer to watch.
As for Adrian Taylor, he’s 32 years old and has built up a record of 13-1-1 with 5 Ko’s and 76 rounds of experience since turning pro in 2016. as an amateur, he fought in the World Series of Boxing and reached the semifinals of the 2015 USA National Golden Gloves Tournament and the quarterfinals of the 2012 and 2015 USA National Championships. He stands 6-feet tall with an unlisted reach which means he gives up 1.5-inches in reach to Browne.
Where power is concerned, Taylor is somewhat lacking in that department as his current knockout ratio clocks in at 33.3 per cent and he’s stopped just two of his last 12 opponents. His one pro loss came at the hands of Jerhed Fenderson via a four-round majority decision in 2018 and his draw was an eight-round affair with Rafayel Simonyan in September, 2021. Taylor’s biggest pro wins have been against German Perez (twice) and Ronald Mixon and just six of his 15 opponents have entered the ring with a winning record.
Prediction…
Browne has the skills and power to give anybody trouble even though his chin might not be the most sturdy. Taylor has skills but little in the way of power so I’m expecting Browne to be successful in his foray into the 200 lb cruiserweight division, likely by way of stoppage.
I think Browne’s power and experience will be too much.
