Jesse Hart vs Elio Heraldo Trosch Preview August 12th, 2023
Former world title challenger Jesse Hart of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania returns to the ring for the first time in 20 months this Saturday, August 12th when he takes on Argentina’s Elio Heraldo Trosch in a 10-round light heavyweight bout in Oxon Hill, Maryland. Hart hasn’t fought since December, 2021 when he stopped David Murray in the third round. Trosch last saw action in November when he beat Sergio Damian Davies via a four-round split decision after having a point deducted in the final round. The win snapped a four fight losing skid and five-fight winless streak for Trosch.

My Pick
Jesse Hart is a 33-year-old former amateur standout, U.S. Olympic alternate and Golden Gloves Champion. He turned pro back in 2012 and has racked up a record of 28-3 since then with 22 Ko’s under his belt in a total of 145 pro rounds. He stands 6-feet-3-inches tall with a a 77.5-inch reach and has better than average power as his current knockout ratio stands at 71 per cent. However, he has just one stoppage and a record of 3-2 in his last five outings.
In his first attempt at a world title against Gilberto Ramirez in 2017 for the WBO Super Middleweight Title, Hart gave as good as he got but fell short on the judges’ scorecards with results of 115-112, 115-112 and 114-113 and was dropped by the champion in the second round. Before the rematch he stopped Thomas Awimbono, Demond Nicholson and Mike Gavronski in the the first, seventh and third rounds respectively and then lost a majority decision to Ramirez in a rematch in 2018 before moving up in weight.
Hart met Joe Smith Jr for the WBO NABO Light Heavyweight Belt in January, 2020 and was dropped in the seventh round while losing a 10-round split decision. For his third career defeat. Hart’s biggest win came against Sullivan Barrera in 2019 and he’s also beaten Derrick Findley, Samuel Miller, Mike Jiminez, Aaron Pryor Jr and Alan Campa. As a pro he’s won the vacant NABF Jr, IBF USBA, NABF, and WBO NABO Super Middleweight Titles.
The 34-year-old Trosch makes the ring walk with a mark of 15-10-2 with 7 Ko’s and has boxed 121 rounds since making his pro debut in 2011. He measures 5-feet-11-inches tall and unfortunately has an unlisted reach, so gives up four inches in height to Hart. Trosch lacks power and a solid chin as his current knockout ratio stands at just 26 per cent and he’s been stopped in five of his 10 losses. Most of Trosch’s opponents were local opposition but he did step up to meet Walter Gabriel Sequeira for the Latino Light Heavyweight Title in 2015.
He dropped a 10-round unanimous decision in that fight after having a point deducted in the sixth and 10th rounds. He met Sequeira again two years later for the Argentine Title and was stopped in the ninth round of a fight which saw Sequeira down in the first round, Trosch down in the sixth and eighth rounds and Trosch also having a point deducted in the seventh round. He also challenged for the vacant WBA Inter-Continental Title in 2018 and lost a 12-round unanimous decision to Pierre Hubert Dibombe.
Prediction…
Hart may have some ring rust after being out of action for so long and it’s understandable that he’s being matched up against a lower class boxer in his return to the ring. He can’t take things for granted though and has to be wary of Trosch’s rugged style and tactics as Trosch has been deducted points on numerous occasions during his career for bending the rules. Trosch can’t match Hart’s power though and has a susceptible chin so I’m expecting Hart to take care of him and leave the ring a winner. The best bet here is hart by stoppage.
Hart’s boxing ability and power should be the difference.
