My Pick

Kalajdzic is 32 years old and fights out of Saint Petersburg, Florida, but many fans have never really heard of him even though he was stopped by Artur Beterbiev in the fifth round back in 2019 in a shot at the IBF Light Heavyweight Belt. He’s owns a fine record of 27-2 with 19 Ko’s and his current70.4 per cent knockout ratio in his victories shows that he has pretty good power. He stands 6-feet-3-inches tall with a 76-inch. Kalajdzic and his family fled the Bosnian War in 1992 and ended up in America as refugees in 1998. He turned pro back in 2011 and has boxed just 92 rounds since.

His first loss came to Marcus Browne in 2016 when he dropped an eight-round split decision for the vacant WBC United States Light Heavyweight Title. Kalajdzic was decked in the very first round but returned the favour by flooring Browne in the sixth stanza. The only other recognizable name on his list of opponents is Otis Griffin, who he stopped in the first round in 2013. He also beat Lionell Thompson by eight-round split decision in 2014 and Denis Grachev by an eight round unanimous decision in 2020 to rebound from the loss to Beterbiev. Browne.

As for Ellison, the 33 year old hails from Darwen, Lancashire and makes the ring walk with a mark of 14-4 with 5 Ko’s. He lacks power as his five stoppages in in 14 wins translates to a current knockout ratio of 35.7 per cent. Ellison’s losses came at the hands of Carl wild by points over four rounds in 2017; to Jack Sellars on points over 10 rounds in 2019 for the vacant British Central Area Super Middleweight Title; to Padraig McCrory via a first-round TKO in 2020 and to Charlie Schofield via a 10-round unanimous decision in another shot at the vacant British Super Middleweight Belt.

Ellison stopped Jake Burton in the sixth round for the vacant British Central Area Light Heavyweight Crown in July 2022 and defended it in his last outing against Thomas Hart. He measures 6-feet-2-inches tall with an unlisted reach, so gives up an inch in height to Kalajdzic. Ellison has never fought outside of England as a pro and just eight of his 18 opponents entered the ring with a winning record and he was beaten by three of them.

Prediction…

Kalajdzic is bit of an unknown but he’s probably underrated by those who are familiar with him. Ellison doesn’t have the power to keep him at bay and I’m expecting Kalajdzic to battle through 16 months-worth of possible ring rust to add another W to his record.

Ellison doesn’t really even have a puncher’s chance due to his relative lack of power.
