Trevor Bryan vs Cassius Chaney Preview November 4th, 2023
Former WBA ‘Regular’ Heavyweight Champion Trevor Bryan of New York City takes on Cassius Chaney of Baltimore, Maryland this Saturday, November 4th. The 10-rounder from Miami, Florida can be seen on Don King’s pay-per-view as well as FITE TV. Bryan hasn’t fought since June, 2022 when British hopeful Daniel ‘Dynamite’ Dubois stopped him in the fourth round. Chaney last fought in August, 2022 when he stopped Matthew McKinney in 127 seconds. Both men may enter the contest with some ring rust due to inactivity.

Bryan is 34 years old and owns a record of 22-1 with 15 Ko’s with his only defeat being to Dubois in his last fight. He stands 6-feet-4-inches tall with a 79-inch reach and has 101 rounds of experience to his name since making his pro debut in 2011 following an amateur career which saw him reach the quarterfinals of the 2011 USA National Championships and the USA National Golden Gloves and enjoy success in several other national tournaments.
Since entering the pro ranks, he’s beaten boxers such as BJ Flores, Jonathan Guidry, Bermane Stiverne, Elieser Castillo, Epifanio Mendoza, Deric Rossy and Galen Brown. His 2015 bout against Rossy was for the vacant NABF Junior Heavyweight Title and he took it by a 10-round unanimous decision. He then stopped Flores in four rounds in 2018 for the interim WBA Heavyweight Belt.
Bryan fought Stiverne in January, 2021 and halted the former world champion in the 11th round to take the vacant WBA Heavyweight Title. Bryan passed the test when stepping up in class against Stiverne but just 11 of his 23 opponents up to now have entered the ring with winning records. Bryan’s got pretty heavy hands as 68.2 per cent of his wins have come by stoppage.
The 36-year-old Chaney has also lost just one pro fight as he climbs through the ropes with a fine mark of 22-1 with 15 Ko’s, the same as Bryan, and has boxed 80 rounds since making his debut in 2015. He had a pretty good amateur career too as he won the 2014 US National PAL Final, reached the quarterfinals of the 2014 National Golden Gloves, reached the semifinals of the 2014 USA National Championships and won the 2012 New England Golden Gloves.
Chaney carries around the same amount of power in his punches as Bryan as 68.2 per cent of his wins have come by stoppage as well. His lone defeat came at the hands of George Arias by 10-round split decision in December 2021. He beat Nick Jones by third-round KO in 2019 for the vacant WBC USA Silver Heavyweight Title and also has wins over Chauncy Welliver, Jason Bergman and Shawndell Terrell Winters. He measures 6-feet-6-inches tall with an unlisted reach so has a two-inch edge in height on Bryan.
Prediction…
This is a very even fight as both men have identical records and will both have some ring rust to battle through. Bryan didn’t look good at all in his last outing against Dubois so the ring rust will likely hinder him more than Chaney. This is a tossup but Bryan has arguably faced the stiffer opposition as a pro and because of that I’m going to give him a very slight edge here.
