There’s some cruiserweight action this weekend as unbeaten Richard Riakporhe of London, England takes on Dylan Bregeon of France in Wolverhampton, England. This weekend’s 10-round tilt can be seen live on NBC Peacock in America while those in the UK and Ireland can catch it on Sky Sports Arena. Riakporhe’s last bout was in January when he stopped former world champion Krzysztof Glowacki in the fourth round. Bregeon last boxed in June when he dropped an eight-round decision to Isaac Chamberlain.

The 33-year-old Riakporhe enters the ring with a perfect mark of 16-0 with 12 Ko’s and has boxed 75 rounds since making his pro debut in 2016. Riakporhe didn’t take up the sport until he was 19 years old but he captured the vacant WBA Inter-Continental Cruiserweight Belt in his eighth pro fight by stopping Sam Hyde in the eighth round. He defended it against Tommy McCarthy by fourth-round stoppage and Chris Billam-Smith via a 10-round split decision.
Riakporhe added the vacant British Cruiserweight Title in December, 2019 with a 12-round unanimous decision over Jack Massey. He’s fought exclusively in England against European level competition and took a step up in class against Glowacki the last time out. He definitely has the size to succeed as a cruiserweight as he stands 6-feet-5-inches tall with a 77-inch reach. He also has quite a bit of power in his fists with a current knockout ratio of 75 per cent.
The 29-year-old Bregeon climbs through the ropes with a mark of 13-4-1 with just 3 Ko’s and has gone 130 rounds since turning pro in 2017. Before that he enjoyed a pretty good amateur career and made it to the semifinals of the 2016 FISU World University Championships and the quarterfinals of the 2013 French National Championship’s. Unfortunately there’s no height and reach information on Bregeon but it’s a good bet that he has the disadvantage in both areas.
As far as power is concerned, Bregeon has very little as just 23.1 per cent of his wins have come by stoppage. He has a decent chin though as he’s been stopped just once and that was by Michal Cieslak in the fourth round this April in a shot at the vacant European Cruiserweight Title. He lost a unanimous decision to Fabio Turchi for the vacant title in 2021 and also had a shot at it again that year but lost another unanimous decision to Chris Billam-Smith.
The lone draw on Bregeon’s record was a 10-round majority affair with Siril Makiadi in 2019 for the vacant French Cruiserweight Title but he beat Olivier Vautrain by 10-round unanimous decision in his next fight to win the vacant French Belt. Bregeon definitely likes to stay active as this is his fourth fight in 2023 but he’s 1-2 in his previous three this year.
Prediction…
Riakporhe should get a bit of a workout here but eventually he’ll realize that Bregeon doesn’t have the power necessary to keep him at bay. Bregeon will also need to work his way inside and hope his chin holds out. Riakporhe’s expected to win this fight and he should as long as he works hard and doesn’t underestimate Bregeon. He should al,so win by stoppage.
I like Riakporhe’s chances due to his size and power.
