Jake Paul of Cleveland, Ohio will be back in the ring this Friday, December 15th when he takes on Andre August of Beaumont, Texas. The eight-round cruiserweight battle from Orlando, Florida can be seen live on DAZN in most nations. Paul last fought in August when he beat former mixed martial arts star Nate Diaz by a 10-round unanimous decision. August last saw action in August of course when he beat Brandon Martin via a six-round unanimous decision.

The 26-year-old Paul enters the ring with a mark of 7-1 with 4 KO’s and has boxed 44 rounds since making his pro boxing debut in 2020. He stands 6-feet-1-inch tall with a 76-inch reach and has decent power in his fists as 57.1 per cent of his wins have come by stoppage but he’s gone the distance in his last three fights. He also possesses decent boxing skills for somebody who made his name on You Tube and appears to be taking take the sport somewhat seriously. As for his list of opponents so far, most of them have fighting backgrounds at least.
He’s taken on Ali Eson Gib, former NBA player Nate Robinson, Ben Askren, Tyrone Woodley (twice), Anderson Silva, Tommy Fury and Nate Diaz. He stopped Gib in the first round, Robinson in the second round, Askren in the first round and Woodley in the sixth round of their rematch after fighting to an eight-round split decision win in their first meeting. He then beat Silva by eight-round unanimous decision after dropping him in the final round and was beaten by a mediocre boxer in Tommy Fury. Paul then bounced back with his win over Diaz.
The 35-year-old August makes the ring walk with a mark of 10-1-1 with 5 Ko’s but has just 39 rounds of experience under his belt since making his pro debut in 2013. He measures 5-feet-10-inches tall with an unlisted reach which means he gives up three inches in height to Paul. As far as power is concerned, August is average as 50 per cent of his wins have come by stoppage. His lone defeat came at the hands of Eric Abraham by second-round TKO in 2018.
August’s draw was a four-round affair with Rudy Lozano in 2014. Just three of August’s 12 opponents have entered the ring with a winning record and he’s managed to beat all three of them. August captured the vacant Texas Combative Sports Program Light-Heavyweight Title in November, 2019 when he beat Santaro Martin by a six-round unanimous decision. He also has wins over Patrick Simes, Christian Solorzano and Jorge Garcia. The longest August has gone as a pro so far has been six rounds.
Prediction…
August is a full 10 years older than Paul and is the naturally smaller man as he’s fought the majority of his career as a light heavyweight. In addition, he was inactive for almost four years from late 2019 to August of this year when he came back as a cruiserweight and beat Brandon Martin. He’s a pro boxer though and we saw how Paul struggled with Tommy Fury earlier this year and Fury is mediocre at best on a good night. Paul knows that his pay-per-view days are over unless he can beat pro boxers when he’s matched up against them so should be extremely motivated here as fans are getting a little bored with the routine. Paul has some potential as a boxer due to his age and willingness to learn but he needs to continue to face pro boxers to improve and succeed. I have a feeling he will come out on top against August or most fans won’t bother watching him anymore.
Paul has a lot to lose here so he should come through in the clutch.
