My Pick
The 35-year-old Miller will enter the ring with a near-perfect record of 26-0-1 with 22 Ko’s. This will be his fourth fight since June of last year after being out of the ring for almost four years because of failed drug tests. He was due to meet Anthony Joshua before failing tests in 2019 and failed tests again in 2020 when he was scheduled to meet Jerry Forrest. His first fight back was June, 2022 in Argentina when he beat Ariel Bracamonte via a 10-round unanimous decision after having a point deducted in the fourth round. Since then he’s stopped Derek Cardenas in the fourth round and Browne in the sixth.
Miller’s a good-sized heavyweight at 6-feet-4-inches tall with a reach of 78 inches, but entered the ring just over 341 lbs against Bracamonte, 328 lbs against Cardenas and 333 lbs against Browne. He’s not the typical muscle-bound heavyweight but his body shape has worked for him so far so he’s not expected to make any drastic changes in the near future. He’s also a former kickboxer who was a legitimate top-10 contender a few years ago.
Miller has better-than-average power as his knockout ratio currently stands at 84.6 per cent and has stopped 13 of his last 15 opponents. He turned pro in 2009 after a brief but successful amateur career and has 109 rounds under his belt since. He hasn’t fought any top-ranked foes as his biggest wins have been against a 41-year-old Tomasz Adamek as well Bogdan Dinu, Johann Duhaupas, Akhror Muralimov, Donovan Dennis, Gerald Washington, Fred Kassi, Mariusz Wach and browne. The lone draw on his record is a four-round affair with Joey Dawelko in 2013. Along the way he won the vacant WBO NABO Heavyweight Title in 2016.
The 26-year-old Dubois stopped Ebenezer Tetteh in the second round in September, 2019 for the vacant Commonwealth and WBO International Heavyweight Titles after stopping Nathan Gorman in the fifth round in July, 2019 for the vacant British Heavyweight Title. However, he lost all of those belts to Joe Joyce in November, 2020 when he took a knee in the 10th round and decided not to carry on due to taking Joyce’s jabs all night long and suffering eye damage.
He returned seven months later and stopped Bogdan Dinu in the second round before halting Joe Cusumano in one round and then beating Trevor Bryan for the WBA Regular Title by stopping him in the fourth round in June, 2022. Dubois feels he’s in the same class as fellow Brits Anthony Joshua, Tyson Fury and Joe Joyce, but hasn’t taken on any upper-class opponents other than Joyce and Usyk and he fell short when he did.
The comparisons with those elite heavyweights are somewhat understandable at least physically as Dubois stands 6-feet-5-inches tall with a 78-inch reach and has a mark of 19-2. He’s also stopped 18 of his 21 opponents for a highly-impressive current knockout ratio of 94.7 per cent but. Dubois enjoyed a fine amateur career, reportedly losing just six of 75 bouts and winning gold medals at various tournaments. He didn’t fight in the Olympics though as he decided to turn pro instead in 2017.
He was brought along rather cautiously since as a pro but has been pretty active with 21 fights under his belt but has just 72 rounds of pro experience due to his quick knockouts. His most recognizable opponents have included Usyk, Kevin Lerena, Bryan, Joyce, Dignu, Nathan Gorman, Kevin Johnson and Razvan Cojanu. The only three men who haven’t been stopped by Dubois have been Usyk, Joyce and Johnson.
He was outclassed by Joyce but oddly enough was ahead on two of the judges’ scorecards at the time of the stoppage. Dubois usually tips the scales between 230 and 240 lbs and his career has been based on power. He can cause damage with either hand but isn’t the most mobile heavyweight in the ring. He has mediocre to decent hand speed and his chin looked a little shaky when he was dropped three times in the first stanza by Lerena and halted by Usyk.
Prediction…
Miller is nine years older than Dubois and gives up just an inch in height. He can’t match Dubois for one-punch power but possesses a better chin. Dubois started well against Usyk but soon began to fade and it’s quite obvious he isn’t a boxer who handles adversity very well. Although he should get credit for getting up off of the dick to beat Lerena. Miller just keep coming at you and he doesn’t mind taking a shot or two to land one of his own. As long as he doesn’t change his tactics here against Dubois and his chin is as good as it appears to be I expect his constant pressure to pay off as Dubois is likely to fold somewhere along the line.
Dubois’ is in trouble as long as Miller’s punch resistance holds out.
