My Pick
Goodman is just 25 years old and climbs through the ropes with a perfect mark of 18-0 with 8 Ko’s. He’s boxed 125 rounds since turning pro in 2018 following an amateur career which saw him reach the semifinals of the 2017 Australian National Championships and 2013 and 2014 Junior Championships. He won the 2017 Oceanian Championships and also fought at the 2016 AIBA Youth World Championships and won the Australian Youth and Junior National Championship in 2016. He stands just over 5-feet-6-inches tall with an unlisted reach.
Goodman likes to remain busy as he fought four times last year as he beat Zhong Liu, Miguel Flores and Ra’eese Aleem by 12-round unanimous decisions and downed TJ Doheny by 10-round unanimous decision to defend his IBF Inter-Continental Super Bantamweight Title. As far as power goes, Goodman is just about average with 44.4 per cent of his victories coming by stoppage and he’s gone the distance in six of his last eight outings.
Since turning pro Goodman has also captured the vacant Australasian Featherweight Title along with the IBF Inter-Continental, and WBO Oriental Super Bantamweight Belts. He took a step up in class for the first time last this year with his unanimous decision over former world champion TJ Doheny and followed up with the wins over Aleem, Flores and Liu but took a step backwards or sideways against Schleibs. Goodman also has victories over Richie Mepranum and Juan Miguel Elorde and is hoping to land a title shot against Naoya Inoue.
The 27-year-old Worawut makes the ring walk with a near-perfect mark of 25-0-1 and has fought 141 rounds since making his pro debut in 2018. The lone blemish on his record is an eight-round split-decision draw with Nirindon Thata in 2018. As a pro, he captured the vacant WBC Youth Super Bantamweight Title in 2019 and the vacant WBC Asian Super Bantamweight Belt in 2019 and has defended it nine times.
Worawut measures just over 5-feet-5-inches tall and also has an unlisted reach so gives up an inch in height to Goodman. He has more power than Goodman though as 60 per cent of his wins have come by stoppage but has gone the distance in his last four fights and in seven of his past 10. Worawut will be fighting outside of Thailand for the first time as a pro when he meets Goodman and taking a step up in class.
Prediction…
Goodman is just two years younger than Worawut and appears to be improving with each outing as he chases down a world title shot. He’s keeping busy to remain in the spotlight and also hopes to fight in America in the near future. Worawut has decent power and boxing skills but I’m expecting Goodman to win this fight at home as he’s definitely motivated and won’t be taking his opponent lightly. Still, it’s likely that the fight goes the distance.
Goodman is improving with each fight.
