England’s Jack Catterall will be taking on former WBC Junior Welterweight Champion Regis Prograis of America this Saturday, October 26th in battle of southpaws. The 12-rounder from Manchester, England can be seen live in most nations on DAZN. Catterall last fought in May when he beat former champion Josh Taylor via a 12-round unanimous decision in a rematch of their 2022 fight which Taylor won by controversial split decision while he was the WBC, WBO and IBF Champion. Prograis’ last outing was a shutout unanimous decision defeat at the hands of Devin Haney in December to lose his WBC Title and he was dropped in the third round.

The 31-year-old Catterall hails from Chorley, and boasts a fine record of 29-1 with 13 Ko’s. He possesses average power with 44.8 per cent of his wins coming by stoppage and has gone the distance in eight of his last nine bouts. He’s boxed 206 rounds since making his pro debut in 2012. Before that he enjoyed a pretty good amateur career in which he reportedly went 48-18 and captured a CYP title and reached the final of the Junior ABA’s.
Since turning pro he’s won a few other regional and minor titles such as the BBBoC Central Area, WBO European, WBO Inter-Continental, and BBBoC British Super Lightweight Crowns. Catterall stands 5-feet-7-inches tall with a 69-inch reach. He first stepped up in class in 2022 in the first fight with Taylor and definitely proved he belonged with the best of the division.
His biggest wins up until then were against the likes of Nathan Brough, Thomas Stalker, Jarkko Putkonen, Jesus Rodriguez, Joe Hughes, Tyrone Nurse, Tyrone McKenna, Ohara Davies and Timo Schwarzkopf. After losing to Taylor he remained at the top level by beating Jorge Linares and Darragh Foley by 12 and 10-round round unanimous decisions respectively and captured the vacant WBA Inter-Continental Super Lightweight Title. But there’s no doubt former world champion Linares was in the twilight of his career when they squared off last October.
The 35-year-old Prograis was born in New Orleans and fights out of Houston, Texas. He makes the ring walk with a mark of 29-2 with 24 Ko’s. He won the interim WBC Junior Welterweight Title when he stopped Julius Indongo in the second round in March, 2018 and then won the vacant WBC Diamond belt against Juan Velasco with an eighth-round stoppage four months later. He defended against Terry Flanagan and Kiryl Relikh and also won the WBA belt with the win over Relikh.
He then ran into IBF Champion Josh Taylor in the World Boxing Super Series Final in October, 2019 and was edged by a majority decision for first pro defeat. He bounced back with knockout wins over Juan Heraldez, Ivan Redkach and Tyrone McKenna and then stopped Jose Zepeda in the 11th round in November, 2022 to win the vacant WBC Junior Welterweight Crown. He defended it via a split decision over Danielto Zorrilla in June of last year and then lost it to Haney six months later.
Prograis also enjoyed a fine amateur career and has also won the NABF Junior Super Lightweight Title and NABF Super Lightweight Crown since turning pro in 2012. He’s boxed a total of 160 rounds since then and stands 5-feet-8-inches tall with a 67-inch reach. This gives him an inch edge in height over Catterall but he gives up two inches in reach. The most noticeable thing about Prograis is obviously the 24 Ko’s in his 29 victories which translates into a current knockout ratio of 82.8 per cent.
Prograis is a dangerous puncher who isn’t really interested in hearing what the judges have to say about his fights but he’s also a pretty good boxer. However he’s gone the distance in his last two fights. Along with beating Zepeda, Indongo, Relikh, Velasco, Redkach and Flanagan, he’s also beaten the likes of Joel Diaz Jr., Luis Eduardo Florez, Aaron Herrera, Abel Ramos, and Hector Velazquez. Prograis was interested in a rematch with Josh Taylor at one point to avenge first loss and that could still be a possibility in the future.
Prediction…
Catterall isn’t really a polished boxer but he is quite determined and has just enough power to keep you honest. Prograis possesses more power and better boxing skills but he looked pretty bad in his last two outings. It’s possible he could bounce back but he’ll basically need to stop Caterall in England due to the scandalous judging over there. Based on his past two fights, I don’t really see this happening but anything’s possible. When it comes to betting though, I’d give the edge to Catterall.
Catterall is fighting at home, is younger and has looked better than Prograis recently.
