  • Mickey Bey -275

My Pick

The 23-year-old Jiminez climbs through the ropes with a perfect record of 17-0 with 6 Ko’s and has boxed 79 rounds since making his pro debut in 2019 as a teenager. Unfortunately there’s no height and reach information on Jiminez so we don’t know how he stacks up size-wise against Bey. As far as power goes, he doesn’t really have much of it as his current knockout ratio comes in at just 35 .3 per cent. He’s stopped two of his pat three opponents but has gone the distance in eight of his last 10 outings.

Jiminez captured the vacant American Boxing Federation Inter-Continental Bantamweight Title in 2021 with an eight-round unanimous decision over Ricardo Roman. He then moved up in weight and won the organization’s vacant Super Bantamweight Belt in 2022 with an eight-round majority decision over Fernando Gutierrez Cisnernos. Jiminez has never fought outside of Mexico and his record is a bit deceiving as just two of his 17 opponents entered the ring with a winning record.

As for the veteran Bey, he’s now 41 years old and is based in Las Vegas, Nevada and he makes the ring walk with a mark of 25-3-1 with 11 Ko’s. He’s boxed 165 rounds since making his pro debut in 2005 following a pretty good amateur career. He stands 5-feet-9-inches tall with a 69-inch reach and doesn’t really own one-punch knockout power either even though 52 per cent of his wins have come by stoppage. He’s suffered some hand problems in the past but his last three wins have come by KO.

Bey’s first pro loss came at the hands of John Molina in 2013 when he was stopped in the 10th and final round in a bout he was ahead on points in. He lost a 12-round split decision to Rances Barthelemy in 2016 in a shot at the IBF Lightweight Title even though he dropped Barthelemy in the second round. Bey had originally won the IBF Lightweight Title in 2014 via a split decision over Miguel Vasquez but had the title stripped from him after he failed to meet the mandatory challenger Denis Shafikov.

Bey’s last defeat came to George Kambosos in 2019 via a 10-round split decision and his lone draw was an eight-round majority affair with Jose Hernandez in 2011. Bey’s biggest wins have been over Vasquez, Hector Velazquez, Carlos Cardenas, Jose Herrera Garcia, Naim Nelson and Luis Valdivia Marin. Although Bey has been dropped and stopped before, he owns a pretty decent chin. He hasn’t been very active lately though as this is just his sixth fight in the past eight years.

Prediction……

Bey is a highly-skilled boxer who has enough power to gain respect but but hasn’t fought as much as he should have over the years as this is just his 30th pro fight at the age of 41. Jiminez has an inflated record and is taking a big step up min class against Bey. He also lacks power and is fighting outside of his homeland for the first time. Even though Bey is 18 years older, I’m expecting him to utilize his skills to take care of Jiminez.

Bey has a lot more experience and skill.
