My Pick
The 27-year-old Muratalla climbs into the ring with a perfect mark of 21-0 with 16 Ko’s and has 99 rounds of experience under his belt since making his pro debut in 2016. Before that, he enjoyed a brief amateur career and beat a young Ryan Garcia in a district Silver Gloves Tournament. Muratalla has plenty of power in his punches with a current knockout ratio of 76.2 per cent but was dropped in the first round by Humberto Galindo in March, 2023 and has been on the canvas before that. He’s won four of his last six fights by stoppage as well as 13 of his past 16.
Muratalla stands 5-feet-8-inches tall with a 72-inch reach and is trained by Robert Garcia. He’s a fine young prospect and stepped up in class against Jeremia Nakathila in May, 2023 and then took a step back against Diego Torres. He also has wins over Xolisani Ndongeni, Miguel Contreras, Jair Valtierra, Jeremy Hill, Elias Damian Araujo, Jose Gallegos and Luis Porozo. He’s been taken the distance just five times but has fought longer than nine rounds only three times.
Perez Campos is also 27 years of age and makes the ring walk with a mark of 25-5 with 18 Ko’s and has boxed 125 rounds since making his pro debut in 2016 as a teenager. He measures 5-feet-6-inches tall with a 66.5-inch reach so gives up two inches in height to Muratalla as well as 5.5-inches in reach. Perez Campos also matches him in power as 72 per cent of his wins have come by stoppage. However he’s lost five of his last nine fights just two stoppage victories in that span.
His first pro loss came at the hands of Ruslan Mediyev by 10-round unanimous decision in 2018 and was also beaten by 10-round unanimous decision by Carlos Diaz the same year. He dropped another 10-round unanimous to Danielito Zorrilla in 2019 as well as to Alexis Rocha in 2022 and to Brian Norman in his last outing in May, 2023. Perez Campos has a pretty sturdy chin as he’s never been stopped but he struggles when stepping up in class, which is what he’ll be doing this Saturday night. Most of his wins up to now have come against opponents with losing records.
Prediction…
Muratalla is well known for his power but Perez Campos is quite durable with his losses coming to formidable opponents. He’s taking a step up in class once again against Muratalla and although he has the power to pull off an upset here, I’d still be a bit surprised if he manages to do it. I’m expecting Muratalla to emerge with a victory but this fight could very well go the distance.
Muratalla’s power and experience should be the difference.
