  • Thammanoon Niyomtrong +700
  • Oscar Collazo -1250

My Pick

The 27-year-old Collazo is a southpaw who resides in Puerto Rico and has 59 rounds of experience to his name since making his pro debut in 2020 following a fine seven-year amateur career which saw him win five national amateur titles as well as a bronze medal the 2017 PanAmerican Championships and a gold disc at the 2019 Pan American Games. He’s gone a perfect 10-0 as a pro with 7 Ko’s and stands 5-feet-2-inches tall with a 61-inch reach.

Collazo won the vacant WBO Latino Minimumweight title in his fourth pro outing when he halted Pedro Villegas in the third round and captured the world title in his seventh fight with the stoppage of Jerusalem. Collazo has heavy hands for such a small boxer as his current knockout ratio stands at 70 per cent. The only three men to go the distance with him have been Francisco Zambrano over six rounds in 2021; Vic Saludar over 12 rounds in July, 2022 and Zapata in 12 in his last fight. Both Saludar and Collazo hit the deck in the seventh round in their contest.

Niyomtrong is 34 years old with a perfect mark of 25-0 with 9 Ko’s and has boxed 218 rounds since making his pro debut in 2012. He measures 5-feet-1-inch tall with a 61-inch reach so is an inch shorter than Collazo and is also a southpaw. As far as power is concerned, Niyomtrong doesn’t possess too much of a bang in his punches as just 36 per cent of his victories have been by stoppage including only two of his past 10 outings.

He won the vacant Youth World Minimumweight Title in his pro debut with a sixth-round technical decision over Marzon Cabilla and defended it seven times. The biggest wins of Niyomtrong’s career have come against the likes of Carlos Buitrago (twice), Muhammad Rachman, Alexis Diaz, Byron Rojas (twice), ArAr Andales Norihito Tanaka and Chayaphon Moonsri.

He’s a former Muay Thai boxer who won the WBA Interim Mini Flyweight Belt in 2014 against Buitrago and beat Rojas for the full belt in 2016 and has defended it 11 times, making him the longest reigning mini-flyweight champion in history, reigning for over eight years and three months as the WBA mini-flyweight champion.

Prediction…

This fight comes down the the hard-hitting Collazo against the skillful Niyomtrong and I think the Collazo will have his hands full here as his opponent has plenty of experience even though he lacks power. Collazo will need to be at his best here and if he is, I think he should be able to do just enough to hang onto his title in a very close fight, regardless of the wide odds.

I give Collazo a slight edge due to his power.
