Serhii Bohachuk vs Ishmael Davis Preview December 21st, 2024

Ukraine’s Serhii Bohachuk will be taking on Ishmael Davis of England this Saturday, December 21st in a 12-round junior middleweight contests. The fight takes place in Saudi Arabia on the undercard of the Usyk vs Fury rematch and can be seen live on pay-per-view in most nations. Bohachuk won the vacant interim WBC Belt via a wide unanimous decision over Brian Mendoza in March but then lost it via a controversial majority decision to Vergil Ortiz Jr in August even though he dropped Ortiz in the first and eighth round. Davis last fought in September when he dropped a 12-round majority decision to Josh Kelly.

  • Serhii Bohachuk -1000

My Pick

The 29-year-old Bohachuk fights out of Los Angeles, California and makes the ring walk with an impressive record of 24-2 with 23 of those wins coming by stoppage for a knockout ratio of 95.8 per cent in his victories. His first defeat was by eighth-round TKO to Brandon Adams, so Bohachuk has gone the distance just twice as a pro and they were his last two outings, against Brian Mendoza and Ortiz. When Adams halted him in March, 2021, Bohachuk was comfortably ahead on all three scorecards at the time after Adams was deducted a point for low blows in the third round.

It’s quite obvious that Bohachuk has remarkable power and he’s had to fight just 109 rounds in 26 contests since making his pro debut in 2017. Before that he enjoyed a fine amateur career and competed in the World Series of Boxing for Ukraine. He was a silver medalist at the 2015 Ukrainian Championships and was a three-time national champion in the under-22 division. Bohachuk stands 6-feet-tall with a 73-inch reach and also has wins over Freddy Hernandez, Fernando Marin, Tyrone Brunson, Alejandro Davila, Raphael Igbokwe and Nathaniel Gallimore. He’s also a two-time WBC Continental Americas Junior Middleweight Champion.

The 29-year-old Davis of Leeds carries around a fine record of 13-1 with 6 Ko’s with his lone defeat coming to Kelly in his last fight. He’s boxed only 79 rounds since making his pro debut in 2018. Unfortunately there’s no height and reach information for him so we don’t know how he stacks up size-wise against Bohachuk. But as far as power is concerned he definitely doesn’t match his opponent in that department as just 46 per cent of his wins have been by stoppage. However he has halted four of his past six opponents.

Davis hasn’t taken on any Grade A opponents though as his initial step up in class came against Troy Williamson and he had to go the full 12 rounds to beat him. Kelly also beat Williamson by a 12-round unanimous decision in 2022 and of course lost to Kelly. Just five of Davis’ 14 opponents have entered the ring with a winning record and those 14 opponents had a combined mark of 104-319-12. However, he stepped up in class against Williamson and Kelly and held his own due to his underrated boxing skills.

Prediction…

Bohachuk has exceptional power and is quite relentless as he just keeps pushing forwards in his fights. Davis may possess the better overall boxing skill by a slight margin but as long as Bohachuk lets his hands go like he usually does it would probably be right to assume that this fight ends in a knockout for the Ukrainian, but going the distance wouldn’t be a surprise either.

Bohachuk’s non-stop pressure should result in a win.
