  • Panya Pradabsri +110
  • Carlos Canizales -140

My Pick

The 31-year-old Canizales has a record of 27-2-1 with 19 Ko’s. He won the vacant WBA Light Flyweight Title in 2018 with a unanimous decision over Reiya Konishi and defended it against Bin Lu by 12th-round stoppage and Sho Kimura by unanimous decision before losing the belt to Esteban Bermudez when he was stopped in the sixth round in May, 2021. Before losing to Bermudez the only blemish on his record was a 12-round split decision draw with Ryoichi Taguchi on New Year’s Eve, 2016 in an attempt to win Taguchi’s WBA Light Flyweight Crown.

Canizales turned pro in 2014 and has 169 rounds of experience under his belt since. He possesses good power as 70.4 per cent of his victories have come by way of stoppage and but has halted just three of his past 10 opponents. The former champion measures 5-feet-3-inches tall with a reach of 64.5 inches. Canizales also won the WBA Fedelatin Light Flyweight Title in October, 2015 with an 11-round split decision over Rober Barrera and also has wins over Ganigan Lopez and Daniel Matellon.

Pradabsri is 33 years old and is also known as Petchmanee CP Freshmart. He makes the ring walk with a fine mark of 43-2 with 27 Ko’s and has boxed 278 rounds since turning pro in 2014. he measures 5-feet-2-inches tall with a 64-inch reach, so gives up an inch in height to Canizales and a minimal half-inch in reach. As far as power goes, he’s above average as 62.8 per cent of his victories have come by stoppage including his last four. The first pro loss for Pradabsri came at the hands of Chaozhong Xiong back in 2017 when he dropped a 12-round majority decision.

His second defeat came to Yudai Shigeoka by unanimous decision in October, 2023 to put an end to his reign as the WBC Minimumweight Champion. He won the Title in September, 2020 when he beat Chayaphon Moonsri via a unanimous decision and defended it four times before losing it to Shigeoka. He has wins over Norihito Tanaka (twice) and two over Moonsri. As a pro, Pradabsri has also captured the vacant OPBF Silver Flyweight, Light Flyweight and Silver Minimumweight Belts, the vacant Asian Minimumweight Crown and the WBC Asian Continental, Oriental, and Pan Asian Minimumweight Titles.

Prediction…

Like a lot of Thai boxers, Pradabsri likes to keep busy against opponents of any level and just 19 of his 45 opponents entered the ring with a winning record. This means he hasn’t exactly been facing the cream of the crop in the lighter weight divisions but he wins when it counts and will be fighting at home. Canizales has fine boxing skills but his power has more or less gone missing in action lately. However he has faced tougher opposition as a pro and is used to fighting on the road. Both are fan-friendly boxers who are at their best when they throw punches in volume but considering his experience, I’m expecting Canizales to leave the ring with another belt after a very close fight.

Canizales’ experience and overall skills will be too much for Pradabsri.
