My Pick

The 28-year-old Simpson makes the ring walk with a perfect mark of 15-0 with 10 Ko’s and has boxed 60 rounds since making his pro debut in 2019. He’s a former soccer player who reportedly won 38 of his 53 amateur fights. He’s pretty tall for the 168-lb division as he’s 6-feet-3-inches with a reported 75-inch reach. As far as power goes, Simpson is above average as his current knockout ratio sits at 66.7 per cent and he’s stopped six of his past nine opponents.

Simpson didn’t face an opponent with a winning record until his eighth pro fight and his opponents up until then had a combined record of 47-322-6. In fact, that was the combined record of seven of those eight opponents as BoxRec is unsure who Simpson even faced in his seventh bout. Still, Simpson has won all 15 of his bouts with the only recognizable opponents being Chelli and Jose de Jesus Macias.

On the other side of the coin, Woodall is 30 years old and carries around a mark of 19-2-1 with 12 Ko’s and has 90 rounds of pro experience under his belt since turning pro in 2014. As an amateur he fought at the English Junior and Youth National Championships in 2012 and the Great Britain Youth Championships the same year. He also reportedly won five national and two British titles and was a world championship quarter finalist. At 5-feet-11-inches tall with a 69.5-inch reach, Woodall gives up four inches in height to Simpson and 5.5-inches in reach.

His first defeat came in 2015 when Steve Rolls stopped him in the fifth round in a shot at the vacant NABF Jr. Middleweight Title after Woodall dropped him in the third round. He then lost to Padraig McCrory via a 10-round unanimous decision in August, 2023 after being dropped in the eighth round. His lone draw was a six-round affair with Jas Phipps in 2015. When it comes to Woodall’s power, 62.3 per cent of his victories have come by stoppage including just two of his past six. He hasn’t faced the toughest opponents either as just eight of his 22 opponents have entered the ring with a winning record.

Prediction…

This is a pretty evenly matched domestic-level fight with Simpson having the edge in height and reach while Woodall has arguably faced stiffer opposition as a pro. It’s an interesting matchup that could go either way but I think the favourite Simpson will do enough to earn a win and remain undefeated with the belts around his waist.

Simpson has a decided size advantage.
