The fight from Las Vegas, Nevada can be seen live on Prime Video in most nations. My Pick

Elijah Garcia is just 21 years old and enters the contest with a fine record of 16-1 with 13 Ko’s. He’s boxed 64 rounds since making his pro debut in 2020 following his amateur career. As an amateur he reached the semifinals of the 2019 USA Youth National Championships, the final of the 2018 USA Junior Open Tournament, the quarterfinals of the 2018 USA Junior Golden Gloves, the final of the 2017 USA Junior Olympics Intermediate Division and the 2016 USA Junior Olympics Final in the Intermediate Division.

Garcia stands 6-feet-tall with a 71-inch reach and has plenty of power in his offensive arsenal as 81.2 per cent of his wins have come by stoppage, including four of his last five. He stopped Amilcar Vidal Jr in the fourth round in March, 2023 to capture the WBC Latino Middleweight Title and defended it just six weeks late via a 10-round unanimous decision over Kevin Salgado with Salgado having a point deducted for a low blow in the seventh round. He also has wins over Jose Armando Resendiz and Edgar Valenzuela and will be taking a step up in class this weekend.

The 37-year-old Gausha also enjoyed a fine amateur career and represented the USA at the 2012 Olympic Games in London, England. He’s a former Golden Gloves and National Champion but was eliminated at the Olympics after two bouts. Gausha will climb through the ropes with a mark of 24-4-1 with 12 Ko’s. He measures 5-feet-10-inches tall with a 73.5-inch reach which sees him give up two inches in height to Garcia but has a 2.5-inch reach advantage. Gausha is probably best known for his 2022 fight against Tim Tszyu for the WBO Global Super Welterweight Title in which he lost by scores of 114-113, 115-112 and 116-111.

Gausha turned pro back in 2012 after the Olympics and has boxed 189 rounds since. His first loss came to Erislandy Lara by unanimous decision in October, 2017 in a shot at the WBA and IBO World Super Welterweight Belts and his second defeat came at the hands of Erickson Lubin via a 12-round unanimous decision in September, 2020. That entertaining tilt was for the vacant WBC Silver Super Welterweight Title. His defeats to Tszyu and Adames show that he compete with world class boxers but falls just short when doing so. His lone draw was a 10-round affair with Austin Trout in 2019.

Gausha’s biggest wins have come against Charles Whittaker, Luis Grajeda, Joey Hernandez, Luis Hernandez and Eliezer Gonzalez. He doesn’t really have much one-punch power in his fists as half of his wins have come by knockout and he’s gone the distance in eight of his past 11 fights. His power shouldn’t be taken lightly though, especially when combined with his speed. Gausha, who fights out of Encino, California, has a pretty good chin and boxing skills and has proven it against top class opposition.

Prediction…

Garcia is known for his boxing skills and power while Gausha is known for his skills and durability. He has a fine chin and I’m sure Garcia will test it. Garcia is 16 years younger than Gausha and that could be the deciding factor in this fight. Either Gausha’s experience and chin will pull him through or Garcia’s youthfulness and power will do the job. I’m expecting Gausha to keep things pretty close for several rounds and may even last the distance. In fact he may even win this fight. However I think Garcia will take over in the second half of the contest to earn a win.

Garcia combines skill and power.
