It’s Time! Fight fans have been waiting for this moment for over a year and a half and it’s finally here. UFC welterweight champ George “Rush” St. Pierre (22-2) returns to the octagon to battle interim welterweight champion Carlos “The Natural Born Killer” Condit (28-5). GSP returns to fight for the third time in his hometown of Montreal, Quebec, Canada and will be looking to add to his incredible UFC record. This may also lead to the fight that fight fans having been waiting for since, well, as long as most of them can remember – the fight between St. Pierre and middleweight king Anderson “The Spider” Silva. That is, however, if Condit doesn’t spoil the party like he did to the highly anticipated St. Pierre vs. Nick Diaz bout. With that said, St. Pierre, unlike Diaz, is not looking past Carlos Condit by any means, and for good reason.
Georges St. Pierre is itching to get back in the ring. After a long hiatus due to an injured knee, he will finally be able to get back in there and to try and retain his crowd as the undisputed #1 welterweight in the UFC. Even he admits, “In [his] contract [he] was supposed to defend [his] title once a year, and [he] has been unable to do so”. In St. Pierre’s eyes, Condit is the champ. St. Pierre has been in this situation before (not often mind you), but believe it or not there was once a time when he was the guy fighting for the title, not defending it. Without a doubt, St. Pierre remembers his losses in his career, both in title fights, and will do everything in his power to never have to feel that feeling again. And you can be sure that being backed by his hometown crowd; he will not let them down.
Carlos Condit, however, will be ready to absorb all of the punishment that the crowd at the Bell Centre throws his way. While he will most likely be showered with boos, the veteran Condit will not let that affect his concentration as he enters the ring to take on the most dominant champion that the UFC welterweight division has ever had. Condit will look to mirror his game plan from his fights against Dan Hardy and Dong-Hyun Kim and try to finish the champ quick. While he was able to out-point Nick Diaz to earn his interim championship, there is no one better in the fight game at out-pointing his opponent then current champ GSP. While the champ has won via decision in 5 of his last 6 fights, Condit has finished (by KO or TKO) 3 in his past 4 victories. Rush knows that he cannot let Condit throw strikes at will or “The Natural Born Killer” could spoil the champ’s return.

- George St. Pierre -350
Prediction
With his knee supposedly not an issue, look for the champ to do what he does best. He will use his superior wrestling to take down the challenger and utilize his ground and pound. If Condit is somehow able to keep this fight standing, watch for GSP to pick apart Condit with jabs and leg kicks in order to set up a takedown. If this were the UFC of old, in which someone had to finish a fight in order to win, I think this prediction could have went a different way, and I’d have put my money on Condit. However, to the champ’s approval, he will do exactly what has kept him as the top welterweight, and possibly top fighter, in the world, by using his jabs and takedowns on his way to a unanimous decision.
Play: St. Pierre -350
