Antoine Douglas vs Istvan Szili Preview July 17th
There will be a pair of unbeaten middleweights going at it this Friday, July 17th when Antoine Douglas of the USA squares off against Istvan Szili of Hungary at the Sands Casino Resort in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. The 10-round bout can be seen live in the USA on the Showtime network. The 22-year-old Douglas will be climbing through the ropes with a record of 17-0-1 with 11 Kos while the 32-year-old Szili has a mark of 18-0-2 along with 8 Kos.
Douglas was last in the ring back in March when he handed Thomas Lamanna his first pro loss by stopping him in the sixth round. Douglas showed he has some power in his fists in this fight as he decked Lamanna a few times along the way. It was the first time Lamanna had been dropped as well. Szili also stopped his opponent in the sixth round in his last outing when he beat Mathias Zemski in August of 2014. It was his first win in three fights as he fought to a pair of draws against Goekalp Oezekler and Matteo Signani before that.
This will be Szili’s first bout in America and he’ll be facing the toughest opponent of his career up to now. Szili turned pro back in 2009 as a 26-year-old and has fought 105 rounds since then with a knockout ratio of 40 per cent. The average boxing fan won’t recognize a single name on his list of opponents as they’re mostly Eastern Europeans. Szili stands 5-feet-10-inches tall with an unlisted reach and now resides in Switzerland.
Douglas of Burke, Virginia is just under 6-feet tall and has a 74-inch reach. He has 74 rounds under his belt since turning pro in 212 and owns a knockout ratio of 61 per cent. Since he’s another up-and-coming prospect, fans won’t really recognize any of his opponents either, perhaps other than Jose Medina. He enters the fight with a 10-year age advantage as well as a couple of inches in height.
Szili would rather counterpunch than lead the way, but doesn’t have great mobility and hand speed. He doesn’t own a great deal of power either. His best weapons seem to be his body shots as he’s quite effective at digging downstairs. Douglas is more athletic and possesses quite a bit of speed to go along with his power. He’s a lot more effective though when he establishes his jab and this is something he’ll need to do against Szili on Friday night.

Prediction
Douglas has the advantage in just about every category here and Szili hasn’t fought in about a year. However, for Douglas, just owning all of the necessary the tools doesn’t mean he’s going to be successful unless he knows how, when, and where to use them. He should take this contest over Szili by decision or possibly a late stoppage.
