Amanda Serrano vs Stevie Morgan Preview July 20th, 2024
Amanda Serrano returns to the ring in Tampa, Florida this Saturday, July 20th to take on hometown native Stevie Morgan in a 10-round junior welterweight tilt. Serrano gave up her WBC Featherweight Title as the organization didn’t want to sanction three-minute rounds and 12-round bouts for women but is still the IBF, WBO, WBA and IBO belt holder. Serrano last fought in October when she shut out mandatory challenger Danila Ramos of Brazil over 12 three-minute rounds. The fight can be seen live in most nations on DAZN pay-per-view on the undercard of the Jake Paul vs Mike Perry fight. Morgan last boxed in May when she stopped Yenifer Rodriguez in 97 seconds.

My Pick
Amanda Serrano is a 35-year-old southpaw who owns an impressive record of 46-2-1 with 30 Ko’s. She has 234 rounds of experience under her belt since turning pro in 2009 and now resides in Brooklyn, New York. She also has experience in wrestling and mixed martial arts. Serrano stands just over 5-feet-5-inches tall with a 65.5-inch reach and has very good power in her fists with a current knockout ratio of 65.2 per cent but has gone the distance in her last seven fights and nine of the last 13. Serrano has won boxing bettors plenty of wagers over her career.
Serrano is a former Staten Island, New York City Golden Gloves, and Empire State Amateur Champion and has won numerous regional and minor pro titles. Since turning pro, she’s also captured the WBC and IBO Featherweight Titles as well as the IBF World Female Super Featherweight, WBO World Female Lightweight, WBO World Female Super Bantamweight, WBO World Female Bantamweight, WBO World Female Super Lightweight, and WBO World Female Super Flyweight Titles.
Her first defeat came at the hands of Frida Walberg in April, 2012 when she lost by a 10-round unanimous decision in a shot at the WBC World Female Super Featherweight Title. She appeared to do enough to beat Katie Taylor in April, 2022, which was a fight-of-the-year candidate, but came out on the wrong end of a split decision for the IBF/WBA/WBC/WBO Lightweight Titles, while her draw came in 2009 in a four-round affair with Ela Nunez. Serrano has weighed between 118 and 138.5 lbs during her pro career and has actually won titles in seven different weight classes.
She also has wins over Sarah Mahfoud, Erika Cruz Hernandez, Kimberly Connor, Fatuma Zarika (twice), Calista Silgado, Yazmin Rivas, Dahianna Santana (twice), Marilyn Hernandez, Eva Voraberger, Daniela Bermudez and Yamileth Mercardo. Serrano has lost just once in the last 10 years over a span of 32 fights. All of her victories have come by way of stoppage or unanimous decision except for her pro debut which was a four-round majority decision over Jackie Trivilino.
The 35-year-old Morgan climbs through the ropes with a fine mark of 14-1 with 13 Ko’s. She obviously has plenty of power in her punches as 93 per cent of her wins have come by stoppage including the last six in a row which were all in the first round. The only victory that went the distance was a four-round unanimous decision over Kim Colbert in her third pro bout in October, 2022. Her lone defeat came at the hands of Calista Silgado by way of a 10-round majority decision to lose her Universal Boxing Organization Lightweight Title.
Morgan has been quite bust as she made her pro debut in June, 2022 and fought five times that year and eight times last year. This will be her third contest of 2024. As a pro, Morgan has captured the vacant American Boxing Federation Inter-Continental Lightweight Title, the Universal Boxing Organization Lightweight Belt and the vacant WBF Inter-Continental Lightweight Crown. Morgan fought as an amateur at the 2019 Florida PAL State Championships and was named the outstanding female boxer. She also reached the quarterfinals at the Florida Golden Gloves Championships and the 2020 Olympic Trials.
Prediction…
Serrano has a very fan-friendly style as she’s an exciting and aggressive boxer enough power to do some damage. She’s one of the top female boxer’s in the world and lets her hands go as often as possible but is moving up to 140 lbs for this battle against an opponent who has power in both hands. Morgan is a hard-hitter but lacks the experience, speed and overall skills of Serrano. Still, she has the power to pull off an upset here and the odds seem a bit lopsided toward Serrano. If Morgan pulls it off, that may somehow affect Serrano’s proposed rematch with Katie Taylor later in the year. Serrano will simply let her hands go and the volume punching should be enough to earn another win.
Serrano’s aggression and volume punching should be the difference.
