My Pick
The 33-year-old Clarke is a southpaw who resides in England and enters the contest with a perfect record of 10-0 with 7 Ko’s. He’s boxed just 58 rounds since making his pro debut in February, 2022 following his lengthy amateur career. As an amateur, he fought in the World Series of Boxing, reached the semifinals of the 2018 Commonwealth Games, won the 2017 English National Elite Final as well as the 2016 English National Championship with a win over current WBO Cruiserweight Champion Chris Billam-Smith and captured a silver medal at the 2017 European Championships.
He also fought at the 2019 European Games, the 2019 World Championships where he reached the quarterfinals and at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, Japan. As a pro he’s been the distance just three times; against Israel Duffus over eight rounds in February, 2023; over 10 rounds in a unanimous decision over Vasil Ducar in September, 2023 and against Apochi over 10 rounds in his last outing. Clarke has pretty heavy hands with a current knockout ratio of 70 per cent but has been taken the distance in three of his last six fights.
Clarke, who was born in Montego Bay moved to England at the age of 11 and stands just under 6-feet-tall with an unlisted reach. He won the vacant IBF International Cruiserweight Title with his win over Ducar and added the vacant British Crown with an eighth-round KO over Ellis Zorro this May. He also has wins over former European Cruiserweight Champion Tommy McCarthy for the vacant WBA Inter-Continental Cruiserweight Belt as well as David Jamieson and Jose Ulrich.
The 30-year-old Mosquea fights out of France and makes the ring walk with an unblemished record of 15-0 with 9 Ko’s. He turned pro back in 2019 after an extensive amateur career which saw him reach the quarterfinals of the 2013 French National Championships and has 69 rounds under his belt since. As far as power goes, Mosquea’s current knockout ratio clocks in at 60 per cent. He’s gone the distance in his past two fights after stopping his four previous opponents.
Mosquera has fought just once outside of France and that came in his second pro fight in 2020 when he travelled to Belgium. He won the vacant French Cruiserweight Title in March, 2023 with a first-round TKO over Brice Clavier and added the European Silver Crown in November, 2023 when he halted Viktor Trush in the sixth round. Just four of Mosquera’s 15 opponents entered the bout with a winning record.
Prediction…
Clarke is a tough customer with a good chin and power while Mosquera is more of a volume puncher but has faced limited opposition. Clarke is more methodical and a great finisher if he has his opponent in trouble. He may not stop Mosquera but I’m pretty confident that he’ll come out of the fight as the new European Cruiserweight Champion.
Clarke has the edge in power and skill.
