Here are the betting odds from online sportsbook BetOnline.ag (full review here).

  • Daniela Asenjo +1100
  • Gabriela Fundora -2500

My Pick

The 22-year-old Fundora carries around a perfect record of 13-0 with 6 Ko’s to her name for a current knockout ratio of 46.2 per cent. She’s boxed 77 rounds since making her pro debut in 2021 after an amateur career which saw her reach the semifinals of the 2018 USA Youth Women’s National Championships. She also won the 2018 USA Women’s Junior Olympics Final and 2017 USA Women’s Junior Open Final. Fundora is the sister of current WBC and WBO Junior Middleweight champion Sebastian Fundora.

Gabriela is a southpaw who stands 5-feet-9-inches with a reported 69-inch reach and has stopped her last two opponents. She won the vacant WBC Latino Flyweight Crown in October, 2022 with a 10-round unanimous decision over Naomi Arrelano Reyes and added the vacant WBC Youth Flyweight Belt four months later with another 10-round unanimous decision, this time over Tania Garcia Hernandez. She also has wins over Nataly Delgado, Estrella Velverde, Lucia Hernandez Nunez and Maria Michio Santizo.

Asenjo is 33 years old and makes the ring walk with a mark of 16-3-3 with 2 Ko’s and has 158 rounds of experience under her belt since turning pro in 2012. Unfortunately there’s no height and reach information for the native of Valdivia, Chile so we don’t know how she measures up physically against Fundora. As far as power goes though, she has very little of it as just 12.5 per cent of her victories have come by stoppage. She’s gone the distance in her past nine contests with her last stoppage coming in November, 2018 when she halted Daniela Barbara Rivero in the third round to defend her WBA Fedelatin Super Flyweight Belt.

Asenjo had won the vacant title in her previous outing by stopping Carlota Santos in the third round. As a pro she’s also won the Chilean, and vacant WBO Latino Super Flyweight Titles. She won the vacant IBO Super Flyweight Belt in June, 2022 with a 10-round unanimous decision over Casey Croft and defended it against Linda Laura Lecca via 10-round unanimous decision. Asejo then added the vacant WBC Silver Super Bantamweight Crown last October with a 10-round majority decision over Angelina Lukas.

Her first defeat came at the hands of Mayra Alejandra Gomez in 2015 when she was dropped in the eighth round and lost a 10-round unanimous decision in a shot at the vacant South American Bantamweight Belt. She dropped an eight-round split decision to Isis Mascarena in 2017 in a shot at the Chilean Super Flyweight Title and then beat Mascarena by unanimous decision in the rematch despite being dropped in the first round. Asejo’s last loss came to Jaqueline Mucio Munoz in 2019 when he dropped a six-round unanimous nod. Her lone draw was a 10-round majority affair with Maribel Ramirez in April 2022 in an attempt at the WBA Super Flyweight Title.

Prediction…

Asenjo is unbeaten in her last seven fights and is coming down in weight for this bout. She’s an accomplished boxer but is 11 years older than Fundora and lacks power. Fundora has good power for the female division and is quite tall at 5-feet-9-inches so appears to have all of the edges here. Asenjo should be quite competitive but I see Fundora retaining her belt and a third-straight stoppage for her is also a good possibility.

Fundora is 11 years younger with much more power.
