Humberto Galindo vs Abraham Nova Preview November 2nd, 2024

Abraham Nova of Puerto Rico takes on Humberto Galindo of West Covina, California in a 10-round junior lightweight tilt this Saturday, November 2nd. The battle from Verona, New York can be seen live in America on the ESPN + platform while fans in the UK and Ireland can catch it on Sky Sports +. Nova last fought in June when he dropped a controversial 10-round unanimous decision to Andres Cortes. It was his second straight defeat as he was edged by a split decision O’Shaquie Foster in a shot at the WBC Junior Lightweight Title in February. Galindo was last in action in October of last year when he fought to an eight-round draw with Oscar Bravo and he’s now winless in his past three fights with two losses and a draw.

  • Abraham Nova -1250

My Pick

The 24-year-old Galindo fights out of Mexico and climbs through the ropes with a 14-3-2 record with 11 Ko’s. He made his pro debut in 2017 as a teenager and has boxed 71 rounds since. Galindo measures 5-feet-8-inches tall with an unlisted reach, so gives up an inch in height to Nova. As far as power is concerned, Galindo has quite a bit of it as 78.6 per cent of his wins have come by stoppage. This includes his last four victories but he’s lost three of his last four contests and has won just one of his past five.

Galindo’s first defeat came at the hands of Brayan Rodriguez by six-round split decision in January, 2021; to Artem Harutyunyan by 10-round unanimous decision in June, 2022 for the WBC International Lightweight title and by stoppage to Raymond Muratalla in March, 2023. His first draw was a four-round affair with Carlos Duran in his second pro outing. Just six of Galindo’s 19 opponents have had winning records and they were the last six, and he went 2-3-1 against them.

Nova is 30 years of age and makes the ring walk with a mark of 23-3 with 16 Ko’s and has boxed 134 rounds since making his pro debut in 2016. He had an extensive amateur career where he faced the likes of Jamaine Ortiz, Gary Antuanne Russell, Richardson Hitchins, Frank Martin, Jaron Ennis and Gary Antonio Russell. He reportedly began boxing at the age of 12 and went 167-11 with 60 Ko’s as an amateur and won the 2014 USA National Championships Finals and reached the final of the 2016 New England Golden Gloves where he lost to Jamaine Ortiz.

As a pro, Nova’s first defeat came at the hands of Robeisy Ramirez by fifth-round stoppage in a shot at the vacant IBF USBA, and WBO Global Featherweight Titles in 2022, and has lost to Foster and Cortes. He won the NABA Super Featherweight Belt in 2018 with a 12-round unanimous decision over Sulaiman Seagawa and also has wins over Luis Castillo Leal, Pedro Navarrete, Avery Sparrow, William Encarnacion and Adam Lopez. Nova measures 5-feet-9-inches tall with a 72-inch reach and as far as power goes, he packs a pretty good punch as 69.6 per cent of his wins have come by stoppage but has just two in his last eight fights and has gone 5-3 in that stretch.

Prediction…

Both boxers need to get their careers back on track as they haven’t had much luck in the ring lately. Nova has more experience as a pro and has faced stiffer opposition but Galindo has the edge in power. A win by either man wouldn’t be a big surprise here but I think Nova’s experience and overall skills will make the difference.

Nova’s faced tougher opposition as a pro.
