Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson Preview November 15th, 2024
Jake Paul of Cleveland, Ohio will be back in the ring this Friday, November 15th when he takes on former world heavyweight champion Mike Tyson of Brooklyn, New York. The eight-round battle from Arlington, Texas can be seen live on Netflix in most nations. Paul last fought in July when he stopped Mike Perry in the sixth round after dropping him in the first and second stanzas. Tyson was last in the ring in November, 2020 when he fought to a draw with Roy Jones Jr. in an exhibition match. His last competitive bout came in 2005 when Kevin McBride halted him after six rounds. It was his second straight loss and the third in his final four pro bouts.

My Pick
The 27-year-old Paul enters the ring with a mark of 10-1 with 7 Ko’s and has boxed 52 rounds since making his pro boxing debut in 2020. He stands 6-feet-1-inch tall with a 76-inch reach and has decent power in his fists as 70 per cent of his wins have come by stoppage including the last three after going the distance in the previous three. He also possesses decent boxing skills for somebody who made his name on You Tube and appears to be taking take the sport somewhat seriously. As for his list of opponents so far, most of them have at least had some type of fighting background. He’s taken on Ali Eson Gib; former NBA player Nate Robinson; Ben Askren; Tyrone Woodley (twice); Anderson Silva; Tommy Fury; Nate Diaz; Andre August; Ryan Bourland and Mike Perry.
He stopped Gib in the first round, Robinson in the second round, Askren in the first round and Woodley in the sixth round of their rematch after fighting to an eight-round split decision win in their first meeting. He then beat Silva by eight-round unanimous decision after dropping him in the final round and was beaten by a mediocre boxer in Tommy Fury by 10-round split decision. Paul then bounced back with his wins over Diaz, August, Bourland and Perry. He beat Diaz by a 10-round unanimous decision then stopped August and Bourland in the first round and Perry in the sixth.
Tyson is now 58 years old and finished his career with a mark of 50-6 with 44 Ko’s and a no-contest against Andrew Golota in 2000 after Tyson tested positive for marijuana following his second-round stoppage. He also battled Orlin Norris in a first-round no-contest in 1999. Tyson fought the best heavyweightsof his era but was stopped by Evander Holyfield, Lennox Lewis, Danny Williams, Kevin McBride and Buster Douglas and of course was disqualified in his rematch with Holyfield in 1997 after biting part of his ears off.
At just 5-feet-10-inches tall with a 71-inch reach, Tyson gives up three inches in height and five inches in reach to Paul. Tyson is best known for his power and 88 per cent of his wins came by stoppage and he halted his first 19 opponents. However he stopped just one of his last six. He also had fine speed and boxing skills but certainly dropped off towards the end of his career. Still, boxing is in his blood and he’s determined to make sure he doesn’t embarrass himself against Paul.
Prediction…
Tyson is 31 years older than Paul and but this is going to be a sanctioned bout. However fans need to be aware that it does come with certain stipulations. For instance, the contest is scheduled for eight two-minute rounds and the boxers will be wearing 14-ounce gloves rather than the standard 10-ounce mitts. Essentially, this is an exhibition bout but it doesn’t mean Tyson and Paul will just be going through the motions. Paul has some potential as a boxer due to his age and willingness to learn but he needs to be wary of Tyson’s power and intentions inside the ring. Tyson has been known to snap during the heat of action. I’m assuming this bout will end in a draw as it’s difficult to predict how serious both boxer are taking it. But if they start swinging for the fences I believe Tyson will drop him.
A draw could be in the cards.
