Jaron Ennis vs Karen Chukhadzhian Preview November 9th, 2024
Unbeaten IBF Welterweight Champion Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania takes on Karen Chukhadzhian of Ukraine in Philadelphia this Saturday, November 9th in an IBF-ordered rematch that nobody really wants to see. The reason for this is due to the fact that the pair first met on January7th of 2023 for the interim IBF Welterweight Title with Ennis winning every round in a bit of a snoozefest. The 12-rounder can be seen live in most nations on DAZN. Since their first fight, Ennis stopped Roiman Villa in the 10th round in July, 2023 and was then promoted to full champion. He then halted David Avanesyan after five rounds in July in his first defence. Chukhadzhian has fought three times since meeting Ennis as he stopped Michel Marcono in two rounds in April, 2023; halted Pietro Rossetti in the ninth round in October, 2023 to defend his IBF Inter-Continental Belt and beat Harry Scarff by a 12-round unanimous decision in May.

My Pick
Ennis is a fine 27-year-old champion who enters the ring with a perfect mark of 32-0 with 29 Kos. He’s obviously got a lot of pop in his punches with a current knockout ratio of 90.6 per cent. The only three men to take him the distance were Eddie Diaz who went four rounds in 2016; James Winchester, who took him six rounds the following year and of course Chukhadzhian last year. Ennis stands 5-feet-10-inches tall with a 74-inch wingspan and has boxed just 106 rounds in his 32 fights since making his pro debut back in 2016.
He started boxing at the age of 15 and enjoyed a superb amateur career with a reported mark of 58-3. Ennis was a 2014 US National Golden Gloves Silver Medalist in Las Vegas; a 2015 USA Youth National Championships Gold Medalist in Reno; a 2015 US National Golden Gloves Tournament Gold Medalist in Las Vegas; a 2015 US Olympic Trials Qualifier Gold Medalist in Baltimore and a 2015 US Olympic Trials participant in Reno.
In 2018 he won the vacant WBC (USNBC) Silver Welterweight Title with a third-round stoppage over Armando Alvarez. As a pro, Ennis has also beaten the likes of Thomas Dulorme, Sergey Lipinets, Elvin Perez, James Winchester, Wilfredo Acuna, Mike Arnaoutis, and Juan Carlos Abreu. His bout with Chris van Heerden in 2020 was called a no-decision when Van Heerden was cut in the first round from an accidental clash of heads.
Chukhadzhian is 28 years of age and carries around a mark of 24-2 with 13 Ko’s. He’s got 128 rounds of experience under his belt since making his pro debut in 2015 following a brief amateur career. He measures just over 5-feet-9-inches tall with an unlisted reach so gives up just half-an-inch in height to Ennis. When it comes to power, Chukhadzhian doesn’t really carry too much of it, at least not when compared to Ennis, as 54.2 per cent of his wins have been by stoppage. Sis of his last seven victories have come inside the distance however.
His first pro loss came at the hands of Andrii Velikovskyi by three-round split decision in his second pro bout in 2015 in a Super 8 Junior Middleweight Final. His biggest wins have been against Ali Funeka, Jose Rosales, Yannick Dehez, Ryan Martin and Blake Minto. Chukhadzhian now fights out of Germany and this will be just his second bout in the USA as he’s fought mainly in Ukraine, Russia and Europe. Since turning pro, Chukhadzhian has also captured the vacant WBO Youth Welterweight Title, the vacant WBC Youth Silver Welterweight Belt and the vacant WBA International Welterweight Crown.
Prediction…
Ennis has plenty of boxing skills and power while Chukhadzhian is a solid boxer but not spectacular and definitely ranks second best to Ennis in every department here. He’ll give it his best effort again but I don’t see this fight being any different from their first meeting which means Ennis should have his way in just about every round here. It is possible that he goes for a stoppage this time out though to keep the fans awake.
Ennis’ skills and power will be the difference.
