- Elvis Rodriguez +120
- Lindolfo Delgado -150
My Pick
Delgado’s a 30-year-old with a perfect record of 22-0 with 16 Ko’s. He’s boxed 110 rounds since making his pro debut in 2017 following an amateur career which saw him compete as a lightweight at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Brazil, where he lost in his first contest. He also won silver medals at the 2014 Central American and Caribbean Games and the 2015 Pan American Games and competed in the World Series of Boxing. He measures 5-feet-9-inches tall with a 68-inch reach.
Delgado has more than enough power to be considered dangerous as his current knockout ratio clocks in at 72.7 per cent. He’s halted three of his last four opponents and six of his past 11. He won the vacant WBO Latino Junior Welterweight Title in 2014 with a 10-round split decision over Bryan Flores. He dropped Flores in the third round and Flores had a point deducted in the seventh frame for a low blow. Delgado hasn’t really faced any big-name opponents as his biggest wins have been against Flores, Jackson Marinez, Carlos Sanchez, Luis Hernandez Ramos and Clarence Booth.
The 29-year-old southpaw Rodriguez owns a fine record of 17-1-1 with 13 wins coming by way of stoppage for a current knockout ratio of 76.5 per cent. He has 94 rounds of experience under his belt since making his pro debut in 2018. Before that he also enjoyed a fine amateur career as he made it to the final of the 2018 Central American and Caribbean Games where he was beaten by Andy Cruz and also lost to Cruz in the quarterfinals of the 2017 AIBA World Championships and the 2017 Pan American Championship Final. He also competed in the World Series of Boxing in 2017.
Rodriguez stands 5-feet-10-inches tall with a wingspan of 71 inches so has a three-inch reach advantage over Delgado and is an inch taller. His lone pro defeat came at the hands of Kenneth Sims Jr by eight-round majority decision in 2021 for the vacant WBC USA Super Lightweight Title and his lone draw was a one-round technical draw against Joaquin Chavez in 2019 when Chavez was cut from an accidental headbutt and couldn’t continue. Rodriguez’s biggest wins have been against Viktor Postol, Jino Rodrigo, Kendo Castaneda, Luis Alberto Veron, Juan Pablo Romero, Juan Velasco and Joseph Adorno.
Prediction…
Rodriguez hasn’t really lived up to lofty expectations as of yet but silenced some of his critics with his KO win over Viktor Postol in 2023. He’s looked a bit pedestrian recently though and has gone the distance in three of his past four fights. He doesn’t have a big edge in power this time around and is facing an unbeaten opponent who has fine skills. This is a must-win for both boxers if they hope to one day land a world title shot and I’ll give Delgado a slight edge.
Delgado has a slight overall edge here as he’s still unbeaten.
