My Pick
The 33-year-old Mayer climbs through the ropes with an impressive record of 18-1 with 5 Ko’s and has boxed 134 rounds since turning pro in 2017. She enjoyed a fine amateur career and reportedly went 62-25 while winning the 2012, 2015 and 2016 USA Women’s National Championships Final and finished second in 2014. She also won the 2011, 2013 and 2014 USA Women’s National Golden Gloves Final and took bronze at the 2012 World Championships.
Mayer won the vacant WBC-NABF Female Junior Lightweight Title with an eight-round unanimous decision over Vanessa Bradford in 2018 and won the vacant WBO Junior Lightweight Belt in 2020 with a 10-round unanimous nod over Ewa Brodnicka. She then captured the IBF and Ring Magazine Junior Lightweight Championships in 2021 by beating Maiva Hamadouche by 10-round unanimous decision. Mayer stands 5-feet-9-inches tall with a 66.5-inch reach and has decent power for her division with a current knockout ratio of 27.8 per cent.
Bortot is now 38 years old and fights out of Salgareda, Italy. She makes her ring walk with a mark of 11-2-1 with 3 Ko’s. She made her pro debut in 2016 and has boxed 89 rounds since. She enjoyed a fine amateur career as she reached the semifinals of the 2010 Italian National Championships and won the event in 2022. Her first pro loss came at the hands of Oshin Derieuw via a ninth-round TKO for the vacant IBO Inter-Continental Super Lightweight Title with her second loss coming to Pili in her last outing earlier this year.
The lone draw on Bortot’s record was a six-round affair against Alessia D’Addario in 2017 in her second pro contest. Bortot won the vacant European Super Lightweight Title in 2019 when she stopped Marie Helene Meron in the fourth frame. Bortot hasn’t fought the same level of opposition that Mayer has and just five of her 14 opponents have entered the ring with winning records. She is comparable to Mayer when it comes to power as her current knockout ratio stands at 27.3 per cent. Unfortunately there’s no height and reach information on Bortot so we don’t know how she measures up size-wise to Mayer.
Prediction…
Mayer has the slicker boxing skills and is five years younger than Bortot. She’s also considered to be one of the elite female boxers in the world and has plenty more experience. Neither boxer is known for their power but Mayer’s skills and experience should lead her to victory, likely over the 10-round distance.
Mayer is a class above Bortot at this stage of their careers.
