My Pick
The 26-year-old Muratalla climbs into the ring with a perfect mark of 18-0 with 15 Ko’s and has 71 rounds of experience under his belt since making his pro debut in 2016. Before that, he enjoyed a brief amateur career and beat a young Ryan Garcia in a district Silver Gloves Tournament. Muratalla has plenty of power in his punches with a current knockout ratio of 83.3 per cent but was dropped in the first round by Humberto Galindo in March and has been on the canvas before that.
Muratalla stands 5-feet-8-inches tall and has an unlisted reach and is trained by Robert Garcia. He’s a fine young prospect and stepped up in class against Nakathila a few months ago but is taking a step back against Torres. Up to now, he has also earned wins over the likes of Miguel Contreras, Jair Valtierra, Jeremy Hill, Elias Damian Araujo, Jose Gallegos and Luis Porozo. He’s been taken the distance just three times but has never fought longer than nine rounds.
Torres is a 26-year-old who also owns a perfect record as he climbs through the ropes with a mark of 18-0 with 17 Ko’s and has fought 54 rounds since turning pro in 2019. He actually has a better knockout ratio than Muratalla as it currently sits at a highly-impressive 94.4 per cent and six of his stoppages came in the first round. He’s gone the distance just once as he beat Jonathan Escebedo Martinez by 10-round unanimous decision in February, 2022.
Unfortunately there’s no height and reach information available for Torres so can’t compare him size-wise to Muratalla. We do know he hasn’t fought a high level of opposition though as this will be his first fight outside of Mexico, when he taken on local opposition. His biggest wins have been against Miguel Angel Hernandez, Nery Saguilan, Francisco Gabriel Pina, Jose Valenzuela Diaz and Jonathan Escebedo Martinez.
Prediction…
Both boxers have been active this year so there should be no ring rust. They both possess an abundance of power as well so this could be an exciting fight as long as it lasts. Torres has a puncher’s chance as Muratalla has been floored before but he’s taking a step up in class. This is a good test for Muratalla’s chin and he’ll have to withstand Torres’ power to pass it. I’m expecting Muratalla to earn a win and I’d be surprised if it goes the distance.
Muratalla’s experience against tougher opposition should be the difference.
