My Pick
The 25-year-old Torrez makes the ring walk with a perfect record of 12-0 with 11 Ko’s. There’s no denying his power as 91.7 per cent of his wins have been by stoppage. Joey Dawejko has been the only man to lose by anything other than a stoppage to Torrez when he was disqualified in the fifth round last September for repeatedly spitting out his mouthpiece. Torrez made his pro debut in 2022 and has fought just 33 rounds since, due to his power.
As an amateur, Torrez enjoyed an extensive career by winning a silver medal in the super heavyweight division at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. He also won bronze at the 2019 Pan American Games; gold at the 2017 Golden Gloves tournament; gold at the 2017 and 2018 U.S. National Championships; gold at the 2014, 2015 and 2016 U.S. Youth National Championships and bronze at the 2016 Youth World Championships. Therefore it’s safe to say that he possesses some fine skills to accompany his power.
Torrez comes from a boxing family as his father and grandfather were both boxers and his father is also his coach. Torrez stands 6-feet-2-inches tall with a 76-inch reach so he’s definitely not one of the bigger heavyweights around. He captured the vacant NABF Junior Heavyweight Title last May when he stopped Brandon Moore in the fifth round and has defended it twice. He’s never taken on a contender as of yet so the southpaw prospect will be taking a huge step up in class against Vianello this weekend.
As for the hard-hitting Vianello, he’s 30 years old and carries around a record of 13-2-1 with 11 Ko’s and has banked just 65 rounds since making his pro debut in 2018. Before that he also enjoyed a fine amateur career which saw him compete in the World Series of Boxing. He won a silver medal at the 2014 European Championships and competed at the 2016 Olympics in Brazil where he was defeated by Lenier Pero in his opening match as a super-heavyweight. He measures 6-feet-6-inches tall with a 79-inch reach which gives him a four-inch height advantage on Torrez as well as three inches in reach.
Vianello, who fights out of Las Vegas, also possesses excellent power as 84.6 per cent of his wins have been by stoppage, but he’s halted just two opponents in his last six outings. His first loss came at the hands of Jonathan Rice in an upset in January, 2023 when he was stopped in the seventh round due to a cut eye from a punch. He also dropped a 10-round split decision to Efe Ajagba last March in a shot at the WBC Silver Heavyweight Titloe. His draw was a six-round affair with Kingsley Ibeh in 2020. Vianello also has wins over Curtis Harper, Rafael Rios, Marlon Williams and Colby Madison.
Prediction…
Both boxers have very heavy hands and fine skills but there’s a chance this fight will go the distance as they both have pretty solid chins too. This is a good test for Torrez as he’s facing somebody who also has a wealth of amateur experience and power. To be honest, I can see this fight going either way and if Vianello can handle Torrez’s heaviest shots he has a good chance of winning a very close contest.
Vianello’s pro experience could be the difference.
