My Pick
Goodman is just 25 years old and climbs through the ropes with a perfect mark of 17-0 with 7 Ko’s. He’s boxed 121 rounds since turning pro in 2018 following an amateur career which saw him reach the semifinals of the 2017 Australian National Championships and 2013 and 2014 Junior Championships. He won the 2017 Oceanian Championships and also fought at the 2016 AIBA Youth World Championships and won the Australian Youth and Junior National Championship in 2016. He stands just over 5-feet-6-inches tall with an unlisted reach.
Goodman likes to remain busy as he fought four times last year as he also downed Miguel Flores via a wide 12-round unanimous decision in October, beat Ra’eese Aleem by a 12-round unanimous decision in June and beat TJ Doheny by 10-round unanimous decision in March to defend his IBF Inter-Continental Super Bantamweight Title. As far as power goes, Goodman is just about average with 41.2 per cent of his victories coming by stoppage and he’s gone the distance in six of his last seven outings.
Since turning pro Goodman has also captured the vacant Australasian Featherweight Title along with the IBF Inter-Continental, and WBO Oriental Super Bantamweight Belts. He took a step up in class for the first time last this year with his unanimous decision over former world champion TJ Doheny and followed up with the wins over Aleem, Flores and Liu but may be taking a backwards ir sideways step here against Schleibs. Goodman also has victories over Richie Mepranum and Juan Miguel Elorde.
The 30-year-old Schleibs makes the ring walk with a record of 13-2 with 9 Ko’s and has boxed just 48 rounds since making his pro debut a dozen years ago in 2012. He didn’t fight at all in 2014 and 2015 and in 2020 and 2021. Unfortunately there’s no height and reach information on him so we don’t know how he stacks up physically against Goodman. As an amateur, Schleibs boxed in the Australian National Championships in the junior division in 2009 and the youth division in 2011 when he reached the quarterfinals.
Schleibs also possesses average power as 50 per cent of his wins have come by stoppage including his lost three, but he’s lost two of his last three fights. His first defeat came at the hands of Brock Jarvis in December, 2020 when he was stopped in the fifth round in a shot at the vacant WBO Global and IBF Pan Pacific Featherweight Titles. He was then halted in the first round by Rocky Ogden six months later. Schleibs captured the Australian Bantamweight Crown in 2018 with a 10-round unanimous decision over Robert Trigg.
Prediction…
Goodman is five years younger than Schleibs and appears to be improving with each outing. Schleibs has lost two of his past three contests and has been stopped in both defeats. Goodman is keeping busy to remain in the spotlight as he’s hoping to eventually land a world title shot and wants to fight over in America in the near future. I’m expecting Goodman to win this fight without too much of a problem and considering Schleibs’ two recent losses, it’s likely that Goodman stops him and that’s the bet that makes the most sense.
Goodman is improving with each fight.
