Sebastian Fundora vs Chordale Booker Preview March 22nd, 2025

WBC/WBO Junior Middleweight Champion Sebastian Fundora of West Palm Beach, Florida puts his belts on the line for the first time when he tangles with Chordale Booker of Stamford, Connecticut this Saturday, March 22nd. The 12-rounder from Las Vegas, Nevada can be seen live on Prime Video in most nations. Fundora won the vacant WBC Belt and the WBO Title when he beat Tim Tzsyu via a split decision last March in a bloody battle. Tszyu was originally scheduled to meet former WBA Super World Welterweight Titleholder Keith Thurman but he had to withdraw due to an injury and Fundora stepped in. Booker last boxed in June when he stopped Brian Damian Chaves in the third round.

  • Chordale Booker +700
  • Sebastian Fundora -1250

My Pick

The 27-year-old Fundora, who’s known as ‘The Towering Inferno’ is a bit of a freak of nature as he stands just over 6-feet-5-inches tall with an 80-inch reach. This gives the southpaw an eight-inch height advantage over Booker as well as a 10-inch edge in reach. However, similar advantages over Brian Mendoza didn’t help him out in April, 2023 when he was stopped in the seventh round to lose the WBC Interim Title. With that loss, Fundora climbs into the ring with a near-perfect record of 21-1-1 with 13 Ko’s and has boxed 128 rounds since making his pro debut in 2016 following his amateur career.

Fundora has better-than average power to go along with a pretty good chin as 62 per cent of his wins have come by stoppage. However, he has halted just one of his last five opponents. His lone draw was a 10-round affair with Jamontay Clark in August, 2019 in a shot at the vacant WBC Youth Welterweight Title. Along with beating Tzsyu, Fundora has also beaten the likes of Carlos Ocampo, Erickson Lubin, Donnie Marshall, Nathaniel Gallimore, Habib Ahmed, Jorge Cota and Garcia as a pro.

Booker is also a southpaw and the 33-year-old climbs into the ring with a fine mark of 23-1 with 11 Ko’s. He measures 5-feet-9-inches tall with a 70-inch reach and possesses average power as just 47.8 per cent of his victories have come by stoppage. However, he’s halted four of his past five opponents. Booker made his pro debut back in 2016 and has 115 rounds of experience under his belt since. As an amateur he reached the 2015 USA National Golden Gloves semifinals, won the 2015 USA National Championships and reached the final of the 2014 USA National Championships.

The lone pro defeat on Booker’s record came at the hands of Austin Williams in April, 2022 when he was stopped in 145 seconds after being caught cold. Booker won the vacant WBC USA Junior Middleweight Title in 2023 when he stopped Daniel Aduku in the fourth round. He defended it by halting Nicolas in the seventh round but then lost it on the weight scales when he came in too heavy for his defence against Greg Vendetti in February of last year. However, Booker still won the fight via a 10-round unanimous decision.

Prediction…

Booker is six years older than Fundora and gives up a lot of height and reach to the champion. He’s also coming down in weight as he tipped the scales at 160.5 lbs in his last fight in June. Along with the size edge for Fundora, he also has more power and has faced tougher opposition as a pro. And even though he’s been stopped, he has a solid chin. Fundora usually doesn’t use his size advantage though as he likes to work on the inside and until getting caught by Mendoza with a tremendous punch, it’s worked well for him. It’s going to be interesting to see if Fundora works a little more from the outside now due to that defeat or if he’ll stick to his guns and fight the way he always has. I’m expecting an interesting fight here with the edge going to Fundora and a stoppage is a possibility.

Fundora’s size, power and experience should do the trick.
