  • Tyrone McKenna +275
  • Harlem Eubank -333

My Pick

The 35-year-old southpaw McKenna climbs into the ring with a mark of 24-5-1 with 7 Ko’s. He’s quite tall for the 147 lb welterweight division at 6-feet-1-inch but unfortunately his reach is unlisted. He made his pro debut back in 2012 after a considerable amateur career in which he lost to Carl Frampton, and has now fought 189 rounds as a pro. McKenna doesn’t carry much power in his fists at all as just 29.2 per cent of his wins have come by stoppage and his KO over Moran in his last fight was the first time he’s halted an opponent in 15 outings.

McKenna’s first pro loss didn’t come until 2018 when he dropped a 10-round unanimous decision to Jack Catterall in a shot at the WBO Inter-Continental Super Lightweight Title. He was dropped in the second and fifth rounds while Catterall was deducted a point for hitting him while he was down. His second defeat came is September, 2020 at the hands of Ohara Davies when he was edged via a 10-round majority decision and lost his WBC International Super Lightweight belt which he won against Darragh Foley by 10-round unanimous decision in June, 2019 and successfully defended twice.

McKenna was then in over his head against Regis Prograis in 2022 as he was dropped in the second round and stopped in the sixth. He dropped a 10-round unanimous decision to Lewis Crocker in December, 2023 and was halted in the fifth round by Mohamed Mimoune in his next contest in August, 2024. The lone draw on McKenna’s record was a six-round affair with Arvydas Trizno in 2016. His biggest wins have been against Jose Felix, Anthony Upton and Chris Jenkins but he’s 3-4 in his last seven fights.

The 31-year-old Eubank, who took up boxing at the age of 18, is the nephew of former world champion Chris Eubank and the cousin of Chris Eubank Jr. He makes the ring walk with a perfect mark of 20-0 with 8 Ko’s and has boxed 124 rounds since making his pro debut back in 2017. He won the vacant WBO Global Super Lightweight title in 2023 when he stopped Timo Schwarzkopf in the 11th round after dropping him in the third.

At 5-feet-8-inches tall, Eubank gives up five inches in height to McKenna and unfortunately also has an unlisted reach. This will be his second contest as a welterweight. As far as power is concerned, Eubank is below average with a current knockout ratio of 40 per cent, but still has a big edge on McKenna in that department. He has stopped two of his last three opponents though. Eubank is a former soccer player and karate enthusiast.

Prediction…

Both boxers are ideal for domestic and European level contests and Eubank is arguably stepping up in class slightly against McKenna. Eubank has fine speed and foot movement while McKenna has a big size advantage, meaning Eubank will need to work his way inside. Considering McKenna’s age of 35 and his recent 3-4 record, I’m expecting Eubank to win a hard-fought battle here.

A close call but I’m giving the younger Eubank a slight edge due to his mobility.
