My Pick

The 26-year-old Ortiz Jr is still one of the hottest prospects in boxing right now as he owns a perfect record of 20-0 with 20 Ko’s even though he’s fought just twice since September, 2021. His 100 per cent knockout record means he’s a feared puncher with excellent power. Ortiz turned pro in 2016 and has boxed just 70 rounds since because of that power. Before that he enjoyed a fine amateur career by winning National Silver Gloves Titles from 2012 to 2014. He also won a National Under-17 Crown in 2013 and placed second a year later. In addition, he placed second at the 2016 National Golden Gloves Championships.

As a pro, Ortiz has captured the vacant NABF Junior Super Lightweight Title, the WBO International Welterweight Title and something called the World Boxing Association Gold World Welter Title. His biggest wins have been against Lawson, Michael McKinson, Egidijus Kavaliauskas, Maurice Hooker, Samuel Vargas, Brad Solomon, Antonio Orozco and Mauricio Herrera. He was also the first man to stop Herrera. Ortiz has also beaten the likes of Jesus Alvarez Rodriguez, Juan Carlos Salgado, Roberto Ortiz and Jesus A Valdez Barrayan. Ortiz, who trains with Robert Garcia, stands 5-feet-10-inches tall and owns a 70-inch reach.

The 34-year-old Dulorme makes the ring walk with a mark of 26-6-1 with 17 Ko’s and is a good boxer with decent power and a so-so chin. Dulorme’s first pro loss came by seventh-round stoppage to Luis Carlos Abregu in 2012 for the vacant WBC International Welterweight Title. He was then stopped three years later by Terence Crawford in the sixth round in a shot at the vacant WBO World Super Lightweight Belt.

He dropped a close 10-round unanimous decision to Yordenis Ugas in 2017 in a fight which saw him deck Ugas in the seventh round after being dropped himself twice in round two. Dulorme lost two points in that bout due to low blows and ended up losing the fight by just one point on two of the judges’ scorecards. Dulorme then fought for the interim WBA Welterweight Title in 2020 and was beaten by Jamal James via unanimous decision. He dropped a 12-round unanimous decision to Eimantas Stanionis in 2021 and then lost his third consecutive bout when Jaron Ennis halted him in 109 seconds in October, 2021.

Dulorme’s biggest wins have been against Hank Lundy, Karim Mayfield and DeMarcus Corley and he fought to a 10-round draw with Jessie Vargas in 2018 in a crack at the vacant WBC Silver Welterweight Title. Dulorme stands 5-feet-10-inches tall and has a reach of 73 inches which gives him a three-inch edge in reach on Ortiz. He’s fought 186 rounds since turning pro in 2008 and has previously captured the NABF, and NABA USA Welterweight Titles.

Dulorme has above-average power as 65.4 per cent of his wins have come by stoppage with a current knockout ratio of 51.6 but he’s stopped just one of his last seven opponents and has has gone 2-4-1 over that span. Dulorme fought just once in 2015, 2016, 2018, 2019 and 2020 and has been out of the ring since June, 2022 so will likely have some ring rust to get past. His relative inactivity certainly hasn’t helped him since he’s won just two of his past seven outings.

Prediction…

Ortiz has stopped all 20 of his pro opponents and Dulorme has a suspect chin as he’s been stopped in three of his six defeats. He’s also been out of the ring for close to two years and this likely isn’t going to end well for him against Ortiz as I’m expecting Ortiz to stop him in the first half of the fight.

Ortiz Jr has a 100 per cent KO ratio and a great chin.
