Yamil Peralta vs Ryan Rozicki Preview December 7th, 2024
The vacant WBC Interim Cruiserweight Title is on the line in Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada this Saturday, December 7th as Yamil Perlata of Argentina takes on Canada’s Ryan Rozicki of Canada in a rematch. The 12-rounder can be seen live on pay per view. The pair first met in Sydney in May, 2022 for the vacant WBC International Belt with Rozicki winning by a split decision. However, Peralta’s team appealed the result and it was apparently changed to a No Contest, but it’s still listed on Peralta’s record as lone pro defeat. Peralta last fought in March when he edged Thabiso Mchunu via a 10-round split decision for the vacant WBC Silver Cruiserweight Belt. Rozicki’s last fight resulted in a first round TKO over Olanrewaju Durodola in just 107 seconds.

My Pick
Peralta is 33 years old and makes the ring walk with a fine mark of 17-1 with 9 Ko’s. He’s been a pro since 2018 and has 136 rounds of experience to his name since. He enjoyed an extensive amateur career which saw him compete in the World Series of Boxing and he won a bronze medal as a light heavyweight at the 2010 South American Games and a bronze as a heavyweight at the PanAm Games 2011. He also fought at the 2012 Olympics where he beat Chouaib Bouloudinat and lost to Tervel Pulev. He then captured bronze at the 2013 World Championships.
Peralta stands just over 6-feet-3-inches tall with an unlisted reach but isn’t the heaviest hitter in the cruiserweight division as just 53 per cent of his victories have come by stoppage and he’s gone the distance in three of his past six fights. As a pro he’s also won the WBC Latino, South American, Argentine and the WBC International Cruiserweight Titles. His biggest wins have been against Mchunu, Fabio Maldonado, Cesar Reynoso and Mariano Angel Gudino.
Rozicki is now 29 years old and carries around an impressive record of 20-1 with 19 Ko’s which means 95 per cent of his wins have come by stoppage. He obviously has a heavy punch as he’s stopped 19 of his 21 opponents so far with 17 of them being halted in the first three rounds. He’s boxed just 72 rounds since turning pro in 2016 after a short amateur career but has more or less taken on domestic-level opposition only in Canada. His biggest fight though was for the inaugural Bridgerweight title in October, 2021 when he dropped a 12-round unanimous decision to Oscar Rivas for his lone pro defeat.
The only other time Rozicki went the distance was in May, 2022 when he was awarded a 10-round split decision over Yamil Peralta for the vacant WBC International Cruiserweight Belt. However, the result was appealed by Peralta’s team and a WBC panel reviewed the fight and ruled the title still vacant as a no contest as all three of the judges were from Canada and some hometown cooking may have been involved.
Rozicki won the vacant NABA Cruiserweight Title in 2018 by stopping Abokan Bopke in the first round and captured the vacant WBC International Silver Cruiserweight Belt by halting Shawn Miller in the third round a year later. He also took the NABA Cruiserweight Belt in 2021 when he stopped Sylvera Louis in the sixth round. Unfortunately there’s no reach information for Rozicki but he’s listed as 6-feet-2-inches tall which puts him 1.5-inches shorter than Peralta.
Prediction……
The Rozicki win over Peralta two years ago sparked immediate controversy on social media as most fans felt Peralta won the fight and Rozicki actually admitted that his foe outboxed him. The WBC supervisor at the event also confirmed that the wrong man was given the decision. Although the WBC overturned the result, the Nova Scotia Combat Sport Authority deemed it as an official Rozicki win.so once again we have the power puncher Rozicki facing the boxer in Peralta. Both fighter have solid chins and it’s obvious Peralta will need to depend on his due to Rozicki’s tremendous power. If he can handle that power, like he did in the first meeting, then he has a decided edge here due to his superior skills. Rozicki certainly has a puncher’s chance here and that makes this fight a tossup. He either knocks Peralta out or down several times or he will have a hard time earning a decision. This is a hard call but I give the slight edge to Peralta here.
This fight will be decided by Peralta’s skills and chin.
