The Woodbine Mile is set to take place this Saturday evening at Woodbine Racetrack in Toronto. This is a huge race this year with a lot on the line. Of course there is the $1,000,000 purse, but you also have to factor in the fact that the Woodbine Mile is part of the Breeders’ Cup Challenge Series and the tagline for the series is “Win and You’re In”. So needless to say there is a lot of pressure on these horses to perform in order to claim the first place prize and a berth in the Breeders’ Cup Mile in November.

As you can see Naval Power is a significant favourite heading into the race, while Filo Di Arianna is the second favorite with odds of 5/2.
Naval Power is coming off two second place finishes in Grade 1 races (Old Forester Bourbon Turf and Maker’s Mark Mile). I’m a little bit surprised his morning line odds are so short, but he is without a doubt one of the fastest horses in this field.
Filo Di Arianna has two wins in his last two races (both at Woodbine). They were grade 2 races, but his speed factors were nearly identical to Naval Power, and he showed the ability to get across the finish line first. I would lean Filo Di Arianna of the two favorites.
My pick is Win for the Money at morning line odds of 10-1. This horse looks to be just as fast as the two favourites and he’s consistently finishing in the top 3 in tough races. I would take him to place, while also adding some on him to win the race if the two favorites falter at all.
