On Monday Night Football, the Chiefs will travel to Denver, Colorado to take on the Broncos at Mile High Stadium. This Monday Night Football matchup will kick off at 8:15 PM. ET.
The Chiefs are off to a tremendous start to their 2018 campaign. Patrick Mahomes has taken the league by storm. Through the first three games of the season, Kansas City is playing with tremendous urgency. Armed with a long list of weapons at receiver, tight end, and running back the sky is the limit for Mahomes and company this season.
The Broncos are off to a strong start this season. With Case Keenum as the starting quarterback, the Broncos offense has looked much improved from last season. The defense, even with the departure of Aqib Talib, is still above average. Facing a Kansas City offense that hasn’t shown signs of slowing down, the Broncos pass rush will face a critical test in this game.
Are the Chiefs the team to beat?
It’s early in the season still, but no team has done more to improve their stock than the Chiefs.
Their offense has set records for touchdown passes through the first three games of a season.
Mahomes looks like the next coming of Dan Marino. And, the numbers are staggering.
Through three games, Mahomes has thrown for 13 touchdowns and zero interceptions.
According to NFL Stats, Mahomes ranks 12th in the league in yards per game. He’s completed 15 passes of 20 plus yards and 3 passes of 40 plus yards.
Facing a strong Broncos defense in Denver, will Mahomes’ continue to roll or will the altitude at Mile High slow him down?
Are the Broncos good enough to stop the Chiefs?
The Broncos defense might be good enough to slow down the Chiefs, but can the Broncos’ offense do enough to keep up with the Chiefs? Despite being 2-1 on the season, the Broncos offense ranks near the bottom of the league in points per game.
According to NFL Stats, the Broncos rank 27th in the league in points per game. Facing a porous Kansas City defense, expect the Broncos to have success moving the ball on offense. While the Broncos defense may have success slowing down the Chiefs, don’t expect Denver’s offense to match the Chiefs score for score.

My Pick
The Chiefs are on a roll right now, but maintaining success is hard to do in the NFL. Regardless of how good the Broncos are this season, it’s never easy to go into Denver as the visiting team and get a victory. The Broncos’ defense will need to generate pressure against the Chiefs offensive line.
According to NFL Stats, the Chiefs have allowed the fewest sacks this season. Kansas City has allowed only four sacks, but have given up 21 hits on the quarterback. The second-best offensive line this season has the been the Broncos. If Denver can keep their quarterback upright and allow Keenum to operate from inside a clean pocket, then the Broncos have a shot at keeping this contest close.
It’s hard to imagine the Broncos being able to keep pace with the Chiefs in this game. The Chiefs are head and shoulders above the Broncos in terms of talent. It remains to be seen if the Chiefs can win once facing adversity. So far, Mahomes has largely ridden a wave of success without facing much push back. If the Broncos defensive line can upset Mahomes in the pocket and force him into making a mistake they’ll have the first shot at seeing how Mahomes will respond.
The Chiefs are 3.5-point favorites, which is surprising since the Chiefs have scored 115 points this season to Denver’s 61 points. While Denver should play well in this matchup, expect the Chiefs to win this game by at least a touchdown.
